I formatted it from recovery but not the comp

okay well in formatting it you essentially deleted everything on it so create a new folder on it to put the update.zip in and then install from sd card in recovery mode

What I would do is if you haven't already downloaded the ROM that you want to load, download it on your computer (make sure it is the ROM for clockwork) and then put it somewhere on your sd card, it doesn't matter where you put it if you are using clockwork. Then put your card in your phone and boot into recovery and click install zip from card and locate the Rom on your card and choose it. then let it do that and see if it will boot

and OP where exactly did you download the shadowrom from

try downloading again to your computer from here http://www.shadowrom.com/shadowrom/froyo/final/v0.2.1/ShadowROM-v0.2.1-sholes.zip
and then putting this one on your card....sometimes rom manager messes up with downloads as you will get to know from now on oh and i guess i forgot to ask did you make a backup when you started the install from Rom Manager

Okay well I would just stick with downloading whichever rom you want onto your computer and then put it on your sd card and try an install again instead of using the one you downloaded from rom manager.

Truthfully they are all great, I usually switch it up with a new one every week and they all run great for me. If you like customization I'd look at Chevy's SS or CyanogenMod to me they have the best customizations. I would also look into what themes you like and which ones are best supported on which Roms but you really can't make a bad decision with choosing any of the Roms
