OFFICAL OTA .zip Installation Guide Droid Razr & Razr Maxx

Sorry if this has been asked/answered, but after finally getting it installed properly, my home button and lock screens don't work. Do I need to reinstall the update?

Hi all - Question for you - I have mulled through many pages of this thread and it seems that the original instructions bricked a lot of devices. I am not too savvy with rooting, etc. I was wondering, since the instructions seem to have changed so many times, would someone be willing to please copy/paste the correct instructions to a newer spot in the thread? There are many links and many instructions throughout the thread, but I want to be sure if I do this I do it correctly the first time and won't have to worry about messing up my device :). The most recent postings make it sound like it works flawlessly, it is so easy, etc. but there are still other reports of people with problems. A simple, step by step instruction guide with links, etc. would be very awesome.

Thanks to everyone for all of the help. It is very appreciated :)!

I softbricked and took 3 tries to get it to work, text messaging, LTE, and CDMA all work, no clipping/bugs in software, followed 1st set of instructions, can't say I had issues.:icon_eek:

I can not get my computer to recognize after drivers have been installed. YES I have rebooted my computer... many of us forget this step. I have everything I need to fix my phone just my computer wont speak to my phone.... any thoughts or ideas?

Finally took the plunge, after not being able to do it the "Easy" way a couple days ago (error 7, install aborted...)

- Matt's Utility option 1
- Reboot straight to recovery
- Factory reset/wipe
- Install ICS.

When you do it this way, the upgrade installs the first time. No softbrick, no need to restart and do it again.

Of course when you do this you have to reinstall/restore all apps/settings, but it doesn't really take all that long.

Hi Phreaker,

Would be so kind as to paste the links / method you used? Is it the one on the very first page? Your post gives me hope that this will work if I follow the instructions correctly the first time :).

Thanks sir ~

I used a video on youtube. Worked first try for me and I've never done anything like this. Just search official RAZR ICS. The video is 13 mins long.

I just performed this update on a friend's razor maxx. The first install failed into soft brick. I restarted the phone into recovery, cleared cache, restarted into recovery, cleared cache, restarted into recovery and installed the file again. Worked no problem and installed WAY faster the second time.

Works Perfectly If You Use the Utility FIRST

By the way. After having trouble with it yesterday, I got it working this morning no problems. Now I'm enjoying my taste of ice cream sandwich greatness!!

My phone had never been rooted before, and it failed when I tried to install via the recovery with the zip. Then it soft bricked.
It was only when I used the Utility1.7 and followed the direction in the video did it work flawlessly.

SO HERE IS MY SUGGESTION IF YOU WANT IT TO WORK PERFECTLY THE FIRST TIME!!

1 use Matt's Utility FIRST, as if you are unbricking your phone! (This prepares your phone for the update!) Utility download is found on the OP

2. Then follow the instructions on the OP, or with this video link below.

Droid Razr Utility 1.7 [For Ics And Those Who Want To Go To Ics] - DroidRzr.com - VIDEO
The video even gives an option and shows you how to root at the end. I did because I wanted to use Apex Launcher instead of the default.

My wife got a razr today. I rooted it for and proceeded to side load the update and it failed. Followed the clear cache a few times just like you and then it worked fine. Weird.
