up and running on ICS
Thanks to everybody for all the hard work and smartness, esp. RDA990 for the OP. All I can say to everybody is yes this might take a little work and tweaking, but go for it! Get a little independence back, it's almost July 4th after all lol.
Like most others I could not get the update to go from stock .181 GB despite following the instructions. Kept getting the 0 error, occasionally the error 7. Went through every conceivable permutation of wipe cache, factory reset, install update, reboot etc. I was immediately softbricked, but could always get into Recovery.
My fix was Matt's utility 1.7 Option 1 to restore me to .181 GB. But I noticed the Android icon had changed in Recovery when it was done, and I had more options in Recovery (so Matt's utility must have installed a newer Recovery that works with the OTA?). I rebooted out of fastboot into Recovery one more time, did one more factory data reset (all my stuff is in the cloud anyhow...) per the recommendation at the end of Matt's Option 1, and voila, the install went perfectly.
I am a former OG droid user having run many custom ROMs like CM7, SteelDroid etc. Been through these things many times, only took me about an hour to fix (at work with fat pipe T1 internet connection though). I was trying to stay stock and wait, but was so tired of Verizon yanking my chain. Might go for a JellyBean ROM here sometime since this has reminded me how much I like having the power to do whatever I want with my phone...
Again, everybody, THANKS!
