OFFICAL OTA .zip Installation Guide Droid Razr & Razr Maxx

Using Matt's tool 1.7 option 1 -did- update the recovery software on my phone. The visuals are different yet again and match what was in the OP's pictures. Attempting to sideload the update, here's to hoping...

Ok I updated with success last night with minimal problems. But I have question in the other thread this file is being claimed as a soak test so if I updated to this by downloading it am I now off the update path or will my phone update like normal if a patch is released in a few days?

You'll still update like normal.
Verizon's docs were saying this is the official ICS release, so don't worry regardless.

I'd say it's unlikely, but I don't know macs. All I can say is you copied over the folder structure, instead of the actual .zip file, and the update process expects the .zip file.

Edit: The exact file name should be 'Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip'
Okay, well either way, I'm downloading it again but I chose a path straight to he sd card root as the download location. And I also decided to get my sister's PC who happens to be over here and I'm doing it that way. Now I remember why even with three macs I kept telling myself I need to always keep at least one PC. lol Thanks for responding.

Hey I just wanted to let everyone know I was able to get this to work. My phone is currently optimizing apps. I followed the instructions. Non rooted on 2.3.6. Wipred cache twice. It did give me an error 0 and aborted. So I backed out of recover and went back in. Wiped cache another two times and installed. Worked the second time around.

This is what worked for me as well. I was soft bricked but did not need to use Matt's utility.

Ok, I've figured it out.
If your recovery screen visuals look any different than what the op had posted here, in regards to the android logo,
View attachment 51404
you CANNOT YET do this or you will end up with a Status 0 error and need to re-load off Matt's utility.
If your recovery screen looks different, you do NOT have the ICS-compatible recovery mode for your phone. This seems to be what's leading to the Status 0 errors / failures. You will need to follow the #1 option on Matt's utility 1.7, which will unfortunately fully reset your phone, but in the process update the recovery software to the ICS-compatible one seen in the linked screenshot.

If your recovery screen DOES have the visuals seen in the linked screenshot, you can proceed with the op's method of sideloading ICS on. At this point, you -may- get a Status 7 error complaining about user data. Reboot out of the recovery and let your device boot fully. You don't have to complete setup, just let it boot into Gingerbread. Once you've done so, reboot into recovery again and start the sideload process.

Another thing I noticed - if it matters, the .cache folder on my SD card had a bunch of stuff in it dating back to 2011, so the 'clear cache' didn't touch that directory. Also, the .cache directory on my phone itself has stuff dating back to May, so the clear cache tool clearly didn't touch it either.

As far as I know, Clearing the cache shouldn't touch your SD card cache so that's fine, only thing it should touch is the /Cache of the phone, which you say also has stuff...hmm, rebooting between Cache clearing should do it.

Every time I launch Matts 1.7 the screen dissappears after I "press any button to continue

Did you unzip all the files in the .zip?

Good to know, maybe I should include a reboot in between the Cache clearing?

AP Fastboot says
battery: low
cannot programe
What do I do!?!?

I will update the OP with further instructions, for now I say conserve battery and turn the phone off.

It is the OTA, you are on the upgrade path for future updates, you're fine dancedroid

Yes, I downloaded the 1.7 zip file and unzipped it to the same folder. Installed drivers and when I click on the utility it runs deamon. After it says press any key to continue it vanished as soon as i strike a key. PLEASE HELP!

No idea man. Are you running as administrator?

How did you "unbrick" then O.o!?!?!?!?

I held Vol + & - and Power until it "appeared" to shut off. I then released the Power while continuing to hold the Vol buttons and it went into recovery again.

Do not ask how or why I tried this for I have no answer but it worked for me.

What I think is that not having the right recovery is what is messing it up. I noticed during the installation it did install a new recovery system. I did not use matt utility. I just backed out after the error 0 and entered recovery again, wiped cache and installed. So Im assuming since it had already installed the new recovery the first time around it worked the second time. Could be wrong. But just my observation.

Following the instructions I linked in this post got me to ICS. Thank you all, thanks OP for the baseline instructions, thanks to the numerous people who have tried with varying degrees of success and got me the information I needed to figure out what was going on, and thanks to Matt for an awesome new utility.
Edit: I'll stick around over the next few days to help people get to ICS as I can.

My problem is that when I run Matt's tool, as administrator by the way, when I run option #1, it says it can't find the file or directory but lets me continue. Basically it does not have access and does nothing. Not sure how to fix this.
