[OFFICIAL] CES Presentation Discussion Thread.

As I responded to someone's tweets last night and have said in a couple threads here, the 1GB in the Atrix is highly over-rated. That beast has a "docking application" (aka a 2nd pure Linux OS) running in the background for that docking station / netbook accessory. In the end the Bionic will have more memory available for applications.

This is the exact reason I come to these forums. Great information like this. That definitely made me feel better about the RAM situation. Looking forward to this phone even more now if that was possible.

Thanks for that bit.

I think I've made my decision. Unless some other phone is announced, the Bionic it is.

haha, yeah I did. Busy night tonight. The little one is running me ragged!

When I read your post it definitely helped my feeling about the Bionic, it was just driven home wingdo said it was running a whole separate OS.

Does anybody know if there is a link you could direct me to for the 140 cities that VZW is supposed to add to the 4g network by the end of 2011? It looked like there were several cities in my area when I saw Verizons presentation at CES, but I can't find a list anywhere.

So here is my question. Given this current lineup of new phones (and associated release dates), should my fiancee wait to buy one of them, or go with a current model? Her phone just broke, and we are trying to decide if any of the new ones are compelling enough to hold out for, especially with no hard release dates that I could find. She also likes a physical keyboard and global roaming, so maybe the D2G might still be the best bet? Im not sure if shell care about dual core, but but might be intrigued by a front camera and 4g.

What would you do?

Watched CES and it was cool a lot of 3d stuff but what's up with the next gen Droids 4g and also reading my mind so I dont have to touch my phone ?

And IF (Big if) the bootloader is truly unlocked on the Bionic there's no telling how far devs will be able to push its capabilities. Pretty sure AT&T the will lock down the Atrix tight, so I'm betting a fully modded Bionic will put a stock AT&T Atrix to shame..

So back from me being slow, that dock really eats up half a gig of RAM? Or are there other factors?

Well, no one will really be able to say until it is in the wild, but considering it is running Android and a Linux (non Android) it is pretty safe to assume that half a gig will be needed for the actual Dock OS and the application which allows you to run the actual phone in a window on the Dock OS. If you have any doubts that it is running two OSes, watch the demo video from CES. First they mention "linux" by name when discussing the docked OS, and you also see they are running plain jane firefox 3.6.xx.

Unless you actually have a *use* for the docking station and want to use your phone as a netbook, the Bionic is a far better phone spec wise imo. I cannot wait to get the 4.3" 960x540 screen in my hands.

I have a quick (maybe dumb) question. The Bionic will be running off 512 ddr2 memory (sounds like the same memory used in laptops and desktops)...does that mean we will be able to upgrade the ddr2 memory in the phone? And, I don't understand why the bionic wont be able to be used with a keyboard docking station - when watching movies etc.. who wouldn't want that?
