[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

My R2 did not reset to factory. All my apps stayed along with settings after SBF and then the update downloaded and installed and still kept everything. I may be the exception to the rule but not having to redo anything was sweet.

Cool - going to give it a try later. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to everyone for all the help ! !

Well, here's what happened to me.

The first attempt to flash the SBF file failed. I was running it in a Virtual Window on my Mac, so the phone listed itself as disconnected and failed. So, I rebooted the Mac into Bootcamp and ran the RSD in a natural Windows environment.

That failed due to a "phone is not compatible with multi-interface super-file" error and bricked the phone. :frown:

After a LOT of research I found someone who suggested moving the SBF file to the root directory and try again.

3rd times a charm they say... well, the flash went through, but would not reboot the phone (I got an error).

But, after I disconnected the phone from the computer and pulled the battery, the phone booted up fine. I went right to the update, downloaded the file and installed.

Guess what. I AM NOW RUNNING GINGERBREAD ! ! ! ! And, I didn't lose anything (I didn't do a factory reset after calblazer said they didn't). Worked like a champ. The phone did sit on the R2-D2 animation for a very, very, very long time at first, but everything came back great.

A HUGE thanks to everyone for all their help, a special shout to Inelastic for the link to the walktrough and more thanks than I know how to give to Greygifford for the SBF file ! ! !

A big thanks to everyone on here! I was able to get my R2 unit flashed and updated yesterday and its running really well!

Thanks GREYGIFFORD! Now that my R2-D2 has GB, I'm tempted to switch over from my Thunderbolt for a little while until the official 2.3 comes out for it.

I have the official release of gingerbread on my R2-D2. I am looking for instructions on how to root it. All I keep finding is how to install the rooted SBF from before the official release on 9/13/11.

Does such a thing exist?

Hey Man. I just registered so that I could thank you for making this sbf available to everyone. I'd actually been able to mostly hack the OTA Gingerbread update and get it to install on my phone, but there were some odd anomalies afterwards (USB Mass storage stopped working and the physical keyboard no longer lit up) that I couldn't get resolved. I tried a ton of things to get it resolved, but nothing worked. I'd previously searched for the sbf, like many others here, but had no luck. After dropping your sbf onto the phone, I was able to upgrade using the stock OTA GB update and root using the previously mentioned hack. Everything is looking and running great now, so I just wanted to say thanks!

No problem. Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure that you weren't using the GB update leak? That one was reported to have problems like the keyboard lights not working. I'm on the Droid2 OTA GB update (after SBFing my R2D2 to a Froyo D2), and it's pretty much perfect.

As far as the R2D2 SBF, it was apparently released as the Droid Pro SBF on a Droid Pro forum, and was removed once it was discovered that it wasn't really the Droid Pro SBF. Anyway, last week, some nice guy paid for it, and then shared it with us.

Yup, I'm sure. I actually pulled the OTA zip file from my cache and edited the script. Obviously I edited a few things incorrectly (I skipped the recovery partition and a few other things that I thought were causing it to fail) and then installed it via cwm (since it was no longer signed). Maybe I fell into the same pitfalls that the GB lead had, but I definately got there on my own. :)

UPDATE SUCCESSFUL
Absolutely no issues. FYI, once you guys download the update and it reboots into recovery slide the keyboard out and press the magnifying glass key and you can read what step its in.

Totally awesome day thanks to my new friend greygifford!!!

Chasehammer, you know what I just realized? No CRT off animation on my R2D2. I was playing with the wife's D3 and popped it off and saw the CRT off. Everybody else in the same boat or did I miss a setting?

Hey all, this is my GF's R2D2 Droid 2 and I followed the instructions to the letter to get stock GB on it, then flashed CM7, the phone and ROM is in working order except I can't get anything streaming, TED, Pandora, YouTube, you name it to work. The camera doesn't work either...

None of these work on stock GB, CM7 or the like, I have wiped and reflashed numerous times and now I turn to the experts, please help as I am at a loss!

And I just flashed the new R2D2 SBF 2.2 and system updated to 2.3 and still nothing...

Does the SBF flash the kernel too? That's the only thing I can come up with is a bad kernel.

I don't really know what may be the problem on your phone, but it sounds like you've got something corrupted. I can attest to the R2D2 SBF working properly with streaming, so that isn't your problem. And I believe that when you flash an SBF, you are rewriting ALL the software on the phone (I could be wrong though).

Have you done a factory reset on your phone yet? - If you haven't... reflash the R2D2 SBF to the phone, then do a factory reset (hold down X while booting, then press the magnifying glass when you get the Android guy, and finally select factory reset from menu). This will put you back to completely stock. Wouldn't hurt to boot up without an SD card either. If you still have problems at this point, take it to Verizon - unless you got it right when it came out, should still be under warranty. - Also, if it did work when you had it at stock, but then fails when you flash CM7, I would suggest there being a problem with the CM7 build that you've got.
