[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

OK - I think I have a fix (from a good friend of mine who works at Verizon). Goto Application, All and Multi-touch keyboard. Force stop it and clear cache. Reboot. I did that this morning and the phone has been working fine all day. Let me know if this helps!

Edit: He also suggested turning off the Next Word Prediction - Settings / Language & Keyboard / Multi-Touch Keyboard Settings / Next Word Prediction ... turn it OFF

We can SBF back to stock r2 froyo from stock r2 gingerbread? It won't brick like trying to roll back on the normal D2?

No problems, I've done it.

As far as I know, the normal D2 doesn't brick either...not sure where you heard that. People used to do it all the time to install ROMs that were supported on the Froyo kernel but not GB kernel.

If you're on the latest stock d2, you can't sbf backward to a previous because of the updated bootloader. That's why I was worried.

Maybe I misunderstood the situation based on the r2d2 thing. r2 users couldn't use the original d2 sbf (the first froyo one) because the r2 firmware had a newer bootloader. We had to wait until the second d2 froyo sbf (the current one) came out, and that one worked. I think I just inferred that each new firmware potentially came with a new bootloader version, which would preclude rollback.

Ah yes, the confusion makes sense now.

And to set it straight, the GB updates (including official OTA) do not include that. Downgrading/sbf'ing to official Froyo from GB is no problem (both regular D2 and D2R2D2). I've done it myself a few times on R2D2.

Thank you so much for clearing that up! Now I can fiddle with my r2 worry free.

Let's add another member to this group. I just bought myself a droid 2 r2d2
I was going to just buy another droid 2 global since mine was stolen, but ebay saves the day. Can't wait till it comes in.

Quick question, is there any difference with the r2d2 and the regular d2 software wise?

Yes and no. We run the same software aside from the Star Wars boot screen, lock screen, contacts, apps and sounds. It's the same software but it's different for updating purposes/the specific files used for the software because of the aforementioned differences.

Ok that's what i thought it was. Is there a extended battery door cover for this phone but still has the r2 graphic?
I've seen a few extended battery packs online but they didnt have the correct door.

No unfortunately not. I know Verizon has an extended battery with a white door that comes with it but that's the closest you're going to get.

I found a slimline extended battery on Amazon for my daughters Droid 3. Got one as high as 2200 mah. Check there. Then you can keep the same R2D2 back.

I need some WiFi tethering help. My wife's phone gave up the ghost so we got another one thru the insurance. It came updated with the new GB 2.3.3 and 4.5.602.A957 system verson.

I've tried everything I can think of in the way of wireless tethering apps. I can't get any to work. Tried Barnacle wifi, wireless tether from android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting, and a couple others. Checked things out with SQlite editor and have had no luck.

Anyone have any help for me. Short of trying a new rom, I'm stuck.
