Official Thread: Gingerbread Leak With Root! Get It Now!

The issue with the sync icon is an error with blurcontactsync.apk. It is still trying to sync contacts even though they have all be synced from activation. THE FIX: go into root explorer, look for blurcontactssync.apk under system/app and add .bak to the end. You should see the icon disappear immediately. If you remove the .bak it will come back in just a short time.

Now I plan to just leave it named this way until I either add a few contacts to my list and need to resync, or until an official release is made or we have a rom released.

I hope this helps all of you. It should fix issues with battery life too. Good luck

I'm using ES file explorer..navigated to system/apps/blurcontactssync.apk, but when I go to rename the file with .bak, it says operation failed. I checked the properties of the file and it says the file is not writeable, so I don't think I can alter the file name. Do I have to use root explorer to change the file extension or is there a different problem?

Instructions for a mostly virgin VZW Moto DroidX???

Sorry for being dense, but I would like to understand the procedure for applying this ROM to MY phone. It's a mostly virgin Moto DroidX from VZW currently running Android 2.2 and System Version 2.3.15.MB810.Verizon.en.US

I did install a root kit about a year ago so I could use PDA2Net to tether the phone to my PC (PDA2Net has worked just great!) and so the updates VZW releases periodically fail to install.

I'm ready to dump the VZW customizations and just go to this Gingerbread ROM. I don't care if I have to wipe the phone and loose everything on it - starting from scratch would be just fine.

Which set of instructions should I use to accomplish this with my phone in it's current state? Is there a different root kit or something I should install first?

Thanks very much!

if i read this correctly ur not rooted right? if so u need to download z4root and dx bootstrap when u install z4root open it up and click perma root and then wait for it to reboot if it doesnt reboot turn ur phone off then on and try it agian after ur rooted u will no if u have superuser in ur app drawer so now u need to place the GB file on the root of ur sd card which means on ur sd card NOT in any folders at all just placed right onto it. next u will open dx bootstrap and hit the top button then hit allow for superuser then u will see a success button hit ok then hit the bottom buttom to go into recovery and go to wipe data and wipe cache and after that u will go to install from sd card then choose from sd card then navigate down to the GB file and selected it and then hit yes to download it will do its thing it may take awhile so be patient when install from sd card is complete hit the back button and select reboot and ur good to go if i left something out someone please correct me im typing this really fast cuz im about to go somewhere oh and also if u didnt no to navigate in recovery u use the volume keys to go up and down and the camera button to select things

I have been running for about a week, I haven't had any major problems. When I first tried to flash, it wouldn't get past the bootloader, but I SBFed, re-rooted and flashed again, things seem to be working fine.

Quick Question, what is the app you are using for the clock/toggle widgets in the OP?

Thanks.

Hey guys,

I followed all the instructions on the first page (I'm already rooted). I tried selecting the file and running it but it always said it failed. I eventually just had to restore which brought me back to stock. What am I doing wrong? I'm new to rooting but followed everything, bootstrapped, downloaded the file from here. Is there something special I need to do with the file? When I go into recovery the file is there under downloads. Is there where I need to .zip it?

It says Installing: SDCARD:download/dxgbrooted.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/download/dxgbrooted.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.

If ur DL str8 to ur phone, u should have Astro install its free from the market, once DL'ed go into preferences and check "enable download from browser" and see if that solves ur problem....

Okay....
As of right now u are still on 2.3.15? And rooted ur phone, correct? Once rooted did u flash any custom theme or Rom?
..now while u were still rooted and on 2.3.15 u tried to update to latest system and firmware updates which is 2.2 (2.3.340) this is what everyone is on if there running Apex 1.4 or liberty 2.0

When ur phone fail to get the updates it was because ur phone was still rooted...so before u get OTA u have to unroot ur phone and start the process u tried when u wanted to update.

Okay, so at this point after u have unrooted ur phone and gotten the updates, which would be 2.2 (2.3.340)...u would have to install z4root and follow that process to re-rooting ur phone.

...now, the instructions first posted to flashing the leaked DeOdex Rooted Gingerbread(updated build) was to install DROID 2 Bootstrap from the market, the DROID X Bootstrap won't work..

Okay so to get back up to speed here...

..u went from 2.2 (2.3.15) rooted.
..unrooted to receive OTA which is 2.2 (2.3.340) because the official Gingerbread hasn't been released.
..root ur phone with z4root, and in install DROID 2 Bootstrap, Not DROID X Bootstrap.
..download the Gingerbread zip and place it on ur SDcard.

Using
DROID2 Bootstrap....not DROIDX ..lol
...reboot into recovery
...wipe data(factory reset)
..wipe cache
...install zip from SDcard
..find Gingerbread on SDcard and install!
...reboot phone and enjoy GB rooted....

(To navigate thru recovery use the the Up/Down [in side of the phone] keys to scroll and the camera button to select)

Any more questions, ill be more then happy to answer...
