Here's the 5.5.893 update file str8 from Moto. No root necessary.

1) From Bionic, Download below link
1.5) Using "Files" app on your Bionic transfer from "downloads" dir to root dir of SD card (top level of card). Do NOT rename.
2) Check for updates in Settings, About Phone, System Updates
3) Ding Ding. Found new update.

Enjoy.

Not really sure why Motorola and Verizon need 30-60 days to test. Everything seems to be perfect. Love my Bionic!

5.5.893 is on the upgrade path so no need to do anything complicated here. If you want root, find the 1-click root method (I don't have the link handy) and THEN apply forever root. From there you can update to 901 if you so desire and you'll keep root. AFAIK, only the 1-click root method works on 5.5.893 and forever root will make it permanent. That should get you squared away.

thats not true for everyone, i was forever rooted and lost it going to 901.
none of the methods were able to get it back, including p3's pathsaver.

Uhh, hmm. Well that sucks. I hadn't seen that problem. I assume you reinstalled the superuser.apk to ensure that it was truly lost?

i am now more convinced than ever that the bionic is unbrickable. however the past two hours has nearly made me afraid to do such hacking to my phone anymore. 893 is now installing successfully. thanks for all your help guys.

i must add that i am unable to root however. any suggestions?

I'm not convinced it's unbrickable. Just less dangerous than it was 48 hours ago. :D As for root, do use the 1-click method while you're in 893 BEFORE you go to 901 if that's what your plan is. After the 1-click root method, apply forever root. However, it looks as though some people are losing root which kinda sucks.

I restarted the whole process with the runmebbb.bat instead. Now running 901 rooted. And i know i stated i wasnt going to apply the update again but couldnt help myself. Also even though moto accidentally pushed the update out i highly doubt they are going to leave those few out in the cold when they decide to push the next ota update. Thats just my opinion.

awesome, glad it worked out! am I correct in saying that trying to flash a ROM at this point (with .901 rooted) is a bad bad idea?

I share that opinion. Others have doubts. But, my thought is that they pushed it to some people. So those people MUST remain on the upgrade path. Hence, even if ONLY those people that got the OTA update pushed to them get some kind of update from 901 to whatever the next version is, we only need one of them that are rooted to capture it for the rest of us. So, yea, I'm not exactly concerned. Worse case, we all push ourselves back to 5.5.893 and update from there. Not as fun or elegant, but, certainly an option now thanks the amazing efforts of the Bionic community.

That depends. There are roms that work on 901 but I'd do my research first before trying it. Also, I want to stress to people....BACKUPS! ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS backup after a successful update. That way if you do choose to use a rom or freeze bloat or whatever, when the next update comes you won't be stuck looking for a way to fix your phone so you can install it. :)

Im not until they build one off of 901. The only thing i miss is the pulldown toggles. I believe you have to edit some system files to get the radio working on the roms. Not positive about this so if anybody knows more on the subject sone clarification would be lovely.
