Finally got the confirmation email, but heres my question. Im not to phone savvy. Im not rooted (no clue how to do that) but I did do the original leaked version when it first came out. Now everytime I try to update it says im up to date. Im afraid to do this because A.) im not sure what all this means B.) If it messes up my phone

Anywho, like I said, im not rooted but here is what my phone says im running

System version :
5.5.893.xt875.verizon.en.us

kernel is 2.6.35.7

build number

No need. You're on the upgrade path with the latest released update. You're good to go. If you want 901 you need to install it manually but no need to go through all this just for that. The only thing I'd caution is if you want root now is the time before you go to 901. Use the 1-click method since you're on 893, then apply forever root after that. Then upgrading to 901 will keep root. If you don't care about root you can ignore this.

Oh ok thank you. I was worried I was off the path big time. I remember when that first leaked update came out and I downloaded it through a link on this website (had to download it onto pc then copy it to SD card and access it through the files program in the phone.) I just keep reading all these posts on other forums that that update took me off the correct path and I was screwed. Boy, this is quite a relief as I really have no clue about the android system. Glad I do do not need to go through this. Hopefully an OTA update will pop up on my phone one of these days.

In sort of an unrelated question, would you have any clue why my phone will only check for updates to the system when connected to WIFI? If I check for system udpates on just data network, it says its unavailable. When I check on wifi it works, but obviously says im up to date? Odd, once again thank you!

The leak you installed was the one that became the official update. You're lucky you didn't go past that cause then you'd be off the beaten path like some us were. But you're good.

As for the update check...settings/battery and data manager/data delivery/social applications. Unchecked sync over wifi only. Yea I know...just try it. :)

P.s. the next ota update will likely, but not necessarily, be 901. It got accidentally pushed to a few people early and then was pulled from the update server. That is why you don't see a new update yet. Figure another week or two before the next update is officially pushed.

Lazy reader here. So with the one click does it include the ability to root or do i have to use the one click up to getting the bionic back to 5.5.893 then use root and 43v3r root

did this step by step to 901 and it worked great for me, thanks P3! radio works much better, have 4g @ home where I used to just have 3g/4g intermittent with drops all the time, been great for 24 hours! unfortunately, I just found out that I have no camera apps and don't have root... I've been doing a lot of reading trying to figure out how to fix this (saying i need to go back to 886: but I am not sure how to do this, specifically) and could really use some help if someone has the time to give me some instructions.
I didn't 4everoot between updates (OP said to do 901 immediately after).

I was coming from kin3tx when I did all of this, but ultimately want to have 901 and be on liberty or kin3tx... praise to you android devs/gods!

This is definitely solveable, so do NOT panic ;-)

What version were you running before you started? 5.5.893? 5.7.893? ...

he said he needed to take the phone back to vzw,
its booting up, i would check the version and see if its still rooted,
i bet the version is stock, and root is gone.
the script failed after it reverted so im thinking he is ok and his build is pre ota
jmo

well this is weird. tried diong the one click from 901 to 886, it got stuck when sending superuser after restoring every to 886. phone was on and running 5.5.886. let it do its thing for about ten minutes and decided id just run the forever root script but that fails. tried to do a restore in fastboot and then root but restore fails when trying to write the system. im booted up and now stuck on the "welcome to droid bionic" screen where you press the little android. says please wait, this may take a few minutes. been waiting forever. no service and wifi wont fully connect. any ideas besides insurance replacement?

I am on 901 and working (no root or camera apps)... I was planning on starting over by going to 886 using R3L3As3Droot and 43v3R root and working my way back up... based on your experience I may not just yet (looks to be an issue with reverting?)
