One Click to get back on upgrade path

I tried the 1-click path saver this evening and everything started fine (On 5.7.893 trying to get back on OTA, never been on 5.9.901). This is how far I got:
[*]
[*] Fastboot flashing needed partitions...
sending 'system' (262144 KB)... OKAY [ 26.721s]
writing 'system'... OKAY [ 25.077s]
sending 'system' (229120 KB)... OKAY [ 22.399s]
writing 'system'... OKAY [ 22.158s]
sending 'preinstall' (262144 KB)... OKAY [ 29.477s]
writing 'preinstall'... OKAY [ 24.483s]
sending 'preinstall' (49152 KB)... OKAY [ 4.684s]
writing 'preinstall'... OKAY [ 4.285s]

And then it sat there for 20 minutes, hard drive spinning away, Windows clock freezing for 10 minutes and then catching up. But never did the webtop start sending. I thought I was hosed, and eventually had to shut down phone and pc. My phone actually booted up and all of my data and apps were still there, the About Phone info just listed 5.5.886 as the system version. However, I lost root and can't apply 5.5.893. Any thoughts on what I should do next? I was using the latest Moto Drivers and have no idea wtf happened. Thanks.

You'll Have to finish the script. You need it flash the webtop back and it also has the flash the boot image file which it doesn't do until the very end after rooting. Until you do that the update will continue to fail.

Thanks. First thing I'll try is to redownload the path saver. Is there an MD5 checksum out there for it?

I don't think so. I'd try running your current pathsaver again first. Sometimes it just does that. I had it stop while installing superuser and it screwed everything up. Second time through it went flawless though. Be sure to have the runmebbb.bat fix though if you want to keep root through the updates.

Thanks for your help so far. I ran the script 3 times last night and it hung in the same spot each time. Does the script go right into webtop sending right after the reinstall or is there a pause? I'm not sure what else to try, different USB port maybe. I'll run it again with bbbfix. Thanks again.

Yeah it should start sending and webtop immediately. Maybe you did get a corrupted file. I would definitely run the runningbbb.bat fix with it. Its the easiest easy to retain root updating.

Thought I'd give an update. I have .901 with ROOT! A few notes I'll pass along. I redownloaded the pathsaver, put bbb's fix in and ran path saver again. It still hung before the webtop began sending. I then plugged my cable into a front USB port on my PC and disconnected my printer and USB hard drive from USB. This time, I noticed that the time to send "system" and "preinstall" was about 20 seconds, instead of 40+ seconds it was all of other times. My PC still hung for a minute or so after the "preinstall" wrote, but I let it sit and webtop began sending. The rest worked as it should. One surprise was that I still had all of my apps and settings, I expected a wipe. Lastly, my Titanium Backup gives me an error now that my su binaries are not optimal and it can fix them for me. Should I let it or just leave it be? Thanks jkliving for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Anytime. I've heard of somebody else having the same issue with titanium. Maybe you can find that thread. And a wipe is a big no no when doing the pathsaver. Haha. If you do you'll lose data connection and have to flash the stock radio back in stock recovery.

I'm running 5.5.886.XT875 - just got the phone x-mas. Forever Rooted with the Webtop hack. Can I run the BionicPathSaver on this phone???

You don't need to. The pathsavet was for those who installed the leaked updates and were off the upgrade path. You should make sure you're forever rooted then just install the updates in stock recovery. They're included in the pathsaver download. I would recommend going ahead and familiarize yourself with the process however in case 901 breaks root. Then you'll need the pathsaver to obtain root again and install the 901 update again.

I can't perform the OTA or a manual update. It fails. I think its because of the webtop but not sure.

I get:

Assert Faled: apply_patch_check("/system/app/docservice.apk ce8666sdfg54dfs65g4sdf6g54df65g4s6d5f465fd4g".
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(status 7)
Installation Aborted

Stock OS but rooted wit webtop hack.

I thought maybe the PathSaver would push through the update. Any ideas?

I guess the dock it's referring to is the webtop one then. You could attempt to reflash just the webtop from the pathsaver if you know how and that should get you back to upgrade land without having to wipe anything.

The update is failing the validation check. Updates patch an existing system, so, if you've modified part of the system that it's going to patch (and you have with the webtop hack), then it'll fail validation (as it is). So, reflashing just the webtop partition to get it back to stock would fix it and allow it to be updated. As for undoing the hack, I have no idea as I've never done anything with webtop.
