wow still shows what a knob I am, I never knew the kernel was responsible for showing that info...lol...I wondered what happened to all that info on my phone awhile back, now I know, its when I was trying out slayhers kernels...lol...

I just switched from slayher to chevy, and Slayher kernels don't show single app usage..just the display, cell standby, phone idle, etc.

Skull I have a question for you.

What does your profile screen look like and what advance settings are you currently using?

Since you are the OC'ing god I figure your profile might make for a good model, that and it would entertain me.

The screen shots in post #2 is exactly how my phone is setup save for one extra profile to cover CPU Temp at 120F. I consider that my "non testing or everyday" setup. I believe in simple if at all possible.

Alright everyone. I played around with ondemand for a couple days. And now I can confirm without hesitation that the conservative setting is WAY better for battery life. And the performance hit is negligible. So join the conservative party! haha!!!!

For real, in my experience ondemand I would be hurting for battery (with ultra conservative usage) by 7pm. Like red blinking light hurting. On conservative I can take it off the charger at 8am and still have it running like a champ through at least 11pm. In case you're wondering, I'm using Metickmod black n blue. Chevy lv 1ghz kernel (the newer one.), and the newest baseband (if that matters).

Oh and in both cases the only profile I have set is screen off 250-250. It's set to conservative on there too. I don't know if it makes a difference, but with ondemand I ran the same profile set up, only set that profile to ondemand as well. Again, I don't know what difference it would make to have a 250-250 profile set to conservative, or ondemand considering that the processor speed wouldn't be going anywhere, but ymmv.

So I'm telling you guys now, try out conservative!! You'll be happy you did.

aggiechase37 - I tried Conservative; my phone acted like it was possessed. When a call came in, it would ring but I couldn't unlock it to answer; when I finally did get it unlocked, it wouldn't stop trying to dial once I got connected...I finally gave up. And that was with Sleep/Standby set to 400/800 Min/Max. Plus, on any setting other than OnDemand, your settings in SetCPU's Advanced section go back to default whenever you close the program. I'm running Chevy's 1.25Ghz Std. Voltage kernel. At 1.0 Ghz max the battery life was barely noticeable; my solution was to put it back up to 1.25Ghz and get a second battery.

If I get an extended battery (the D2 fits the D1), I'll just set the thing to Performance and let it fly...:icon_eek:

That's really weird. You're partially right about the advanced section. It does seem to reset itself, but for me it resets itself to minimum values. So for instance, by default the advanced with the conservative governer is

300,000
80
20
0
5

But I've tweaked it...but no matter what the lowest number the sampling rate will go is 156,250.

So my set up is like this:

156,250
73 (this seems to stick)
20
0
5

with set on boot checked in all possible sections (governor, profiles, and advanced).

So my entire setup is advanced from above

250min 1000max on conservative on Chevy LV 1ghz kernel.

only one profile, screen off 250min 250 max set to conservative.

And my phone runs like a dream. Gets great battery on moderate to heavy usage. aka all day, and I don't really have any problems at all. I can tell a negligible difference from ondemand to conservative. It's not laggy at all, but it seems like a couple frames get dropped when switching between screens or the fly in effect from launcher pro. But the extra frames are well worth the battery benefits.

What ROM are you running? On a D1?

I'm still running FRG01B, which may be part of the problem. There's another thread on here with a deodexed version of the FRG22D build that I may try. I've been sitting on the fence, as I can't decide whether to do that or just go for a custom ROM. So many ROMs to choose from; I can't make up my mind!

Yes, I'm on a D1.

My ROM is a deodexed FRG22D. I don't know how much of the problem that would be because it seems like I was running conservative on the last Metickmod ROM. I can personally vouch for MetickOne ROM's. They are great! Just a straight forward, conservatively themed, no frills package. I've also tried Sapphire out and that was pretty good too, in fact that was my first ROM out of the gate. But since I've found MetickOne's I haven't really felt the need to turn back. I do think about what Cyanogen might be like every once in a while.

Anyway, maybe you got a wonky CPU. But it would certainly be worth it to try a FRG22D based ROM. Then you can join the conservative movement and live in battery/performance bliss with me!

I been looking through the write up and I understand basically what everything does, I guess my question is, Whats really the best kernel to run? When I look in my ROM manager I see so many from Chevy and some other folks. If someone has theirs set and runs good I would like to know your setting but I just basically want it to be a little faster than what it is, and still give good battery life. Im running CM6 ROM.

MetickOne's ROM's are the ones I was looking at; from what I've read on the forums he's got it pretty stable. You mention themed, which one are you using?

My settings above work for me, but ymmv:)

ok I will run that and see how I like it...thanks for the response

Reality is each device is different and no 2 processors are the same. Os it kinda boils down to trial an error to see what works best for your device.

Personally on my droid I seem to have best luck when not running a low or ultra low voltage kernel. Seems much more snappy and the battery life is better. that said one of P3's standard voltage kernels works best for me and I've tried and test just about everyone out there before I gave up my Droid and went on to the X I currently have. I still however have my Droid and it is running P3's 1.1Ghz standard voltage and I have no problem at all getting a days (18+ hrs) use out of it

I use the black n blue theme. I don't need much frills, just wanted a black notification bar, and the blue is a nice extra touch. It's completely based off FRG22D. I haven't been stock for a while, but it couldn't possibly be much less stable than that. Give it a whirl and see how you like it. I haven't changed to anything else since, and unless something comes along that absolutely knocks my socks off I won't be changing at all.

Sorry for being off topic.

Conservative governor rules!

Ah yes the good old days prior to Froyo 2.2. The Android OS was too sluggish coming out of standby/sleep mode to justify 125Mhz. That stigma has carried over into 2.2. If the user improperly configures their phone for sleep/standby or have the wrong voltage selected, they will experience the same symptoms as the 2.0, 2.01 and 2.1 days.

So, I sometimes have problems with this. What are the right settings?
