Palm Users Who Changed to Droid?

Search

While i would agree I'm surprised that the built in phone search doesn't search through all areas of information (calendar, email). There is a free application called PowerSearch that does this exact item and more.

Only thing I miss from my palm software is the color coded month view in the calendar.
On my treo, I was able to glance at the calendar in month view and see what type of events I had coming up just by color code. Home, work, travel etc..
Is there an app that does this? All events in month view on my Eris are grey.

Otherwise, love my Eris.

I switched from Droid to iPhone.
However, google calendar has color options. You would have to create a new calendar. A separate calendar for home, work, travel, etc...

I switched from Droid because I couldn't search the calendar on the phone. You can search just about everything on the phone, but not the calendar. How stupid is that? No one at Verizon or Motorola could help figure how to search the calendar on the phone. Forget about even getting a response from google. I posted a couple of different times and got a reply stating they would reply within 72 hours. Still waiting....that was 3 months ago.

Good luck & I hope this helps

I use Aurora to search phone and calendar events. It also has a nice search bar widget like the google one. It's free in the market place. I have a moto droid on verizon network

colors and Eris

I know what you mean about the colors. I found myself with colors because I imported my old Palm calendar into my Google / gmail calendar account as a separate entity, so all my Palm stuff (repeating events mostly by now) shows up in a different color. Now I go online with my computer to my gmail account and make new calendars, basically as categories, and use them. Hey, it's clunky in some ways, but useful in others.

I'm not so jazzed about my 855 DROID, and kinda wished that I'd tried an Eris for a while. Believe it or not, those extra couple buttons are pretty nice to have. I know there are other differences too, and I think that HTC has a couple things over Motorola too.

Power Search is a MUST HAVE (currently) on the 855 w Android 2.01.
NoteEverything is a really good app too.

Power Search unfortunately now has really obnoxious ads. I'd pay for one without it but then I found Aurora. I think it runs in the background indexing, the only negative, but searches are WAY faster than Power Search, not even close. And it searches a lot of things. I still need something to search email like K-9 which nothing does.

Dear All, This is cry for help. Treo 650, was backing up using BackupBuddy (hence no HotSync to either Outlook or Palm Desktop). Now as I try to move to my (still not activated) Droid - waiting for transfer of contatcs - I was trying to play with HotSynce settings - to no avail, cannot move contacts and calendar to PalmDesktop. Hundreds of entries - cannot imagine manual labor involved. Now what? Anyone "in the know" living in Seattle area?

It's been a while now, but when I was still fighting to sync my Treo with Outlook, I resorted to using Chapura PocketMirror. It saved my sanity. You might try going to the Chapura web site and looking for PocketMirror or whatever is the latest app, and the version that will work with the version of Windows you use. It really did solve my syncing issues... which I do not miss at all... I love the Google cloud!

Good luck!!!!!

Been too long since I had a Palm Treo to recall what I did, too. But the advice above is probably the best. If that doesn't work, are you able to export your contacts to a standard CSV format file from your Treo? If so, you'll be able to use that file as an import to both Msoft Outlook (assuming you have to use it) and to your Google gmail account contacts.

Just got my Droid last weekend and love it! Had a Palm handheld, which I held onto for a long time for the password manager, calendar, etc. Switched my phone to the Droid, downloaded Keeper, now using Google Calendar and love it. Having a blast finding apps, and have found Droid apps to replace most of the add-on apps I had on my Palm.:icon_ banana:

Palm-to-Droid battle continues

I've no problem making backups - am using BackupBuddy by Blue Nomad. However - these files are encrypted. I tried to sync to Palm Desktop - that's where HotSync hangs (no error msg - just freezing; checked it leaving the phone connected for few hours to PC, frozen dead). In my next move I just wrote to Blue Nomad asking them how can I unscramble Calendar / Memo / Contacts to CSV format.

My memory may be faulty here, but I seem to recall that you have a choice of backups - encrypted or not...? You might check in the setup for BackupBuddy for that option.

Quick update - it looks like BlueNomad is going / went belly-up (e-mail to their address bounced).
However: it dawned on me: bot devices (i.e. Treo 650 and Droid) do have a Bluetooth. Any chance for direct communication / transfer of data?

That would be a real shame - they were a good campany with valuable products!

You could try Bluetooth - I have never tried it on those two, and I often fail to make it work, but that's just me. Let us all know how it works for you!

Hi, lowtech! I am a newbie in this area. I also have been using Palm for years and have a Centro now. I do use the Palm Desktop v6 in my XP Pro PC to synch with my phone. I do not use Outlook (and don't necessarily want to open that can of worms now). Would you suggest another way to transfer my Contacts and Calendar (IMPORTANT 2 items) to my new forthcoming Incredible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again.
