Well, my truck was towed to a salvage yard last week to be inspected and the yard stole about $1500 worth of stuff out of my truck before I could come and remove it. It was towed about 2 hours away in Houston. They put a stock looking radio with no CD player and a tape deck in there and ripped all my stuff out.

Omg brad, I am so sorry. That is horrible. That happened to my son. Had it at repair shop and supposedly they left it in lot unlocked. His brand new stereo system and speakers were stolen. After filing police reports and lots of pressure, they paid for the damages. File that police report and pursue it till they make it right.

I'm working with the insurance company now. They are supposedly going to pay for my stuff. I had a radar detector, Ultragauge, 2 amps, a sub, head unit and other miscellaneous stuff. Luckily, I had receipts for a lot of it.

Your insurance company shouldn't have to pay for it. We all know who the thieves are. The tow company should be held responsible. Out here the CHP takes an inventory of your belongings.
I had stuff stolen when it was on inventory by the PD and the tow company flatly denied it. Who won? Moi.

Lloyd is right. The salvage yard where your truck was is responsible. They have to pay for the damage. Where my son had his car at the repair shop, they tried to say someone stole his stereo system (I think they did) but it didn't matter who stole it, they were held responsible and had to pay for the damage and loss.

The truck was towed from the accident by the police to a collision center. The next day, the truck was towed from the collision place by Copart (salvage yard) and was authorized by the insurance company. The police didn't take inventory or statements. In between the time the truck arrived at Copart and the next morning, my head unit was removed (and possibly other items) because I have pictures from before showing that I had one, and the inspector's pics showed the radio was replaced with a crappy stock one that was worse than what came originally with the truck.

The yard they towed it to (Copart) was 2 hours away and I didn't know where it was until 4 pm Friday.

It should of been held somewhere for your benefit to retrieve you personal possessions. Here in California you can't remove radios stock or otherwise, or anything bolted, screwed down or affixed to the vehicle while it's being held, only personal items.

I'd be pitching a fit anyways, you should of had access to your truck at some point.

Copart was supposed to hold the truck until I got my stuff and decided whether I was gonna buy it back. The insurance company said I could remove all my stereo stuff and if it was attached (like the head unit and speakers), I have to replace with stock or similar stuff.

Typically the insurance company will let you do that, their discretion. Copart is a auction house for dismantlers to buy from, they can't auction it off til the insurance co. Authorizes it.

We buy trucks from insurance companies and between the time we buy them til the time they get here someone strips them. Only the tow company has access to them. Have to show them pictures of what we bought and what the try to deliver.
