permanent screen marks?

I was going to create a similar post shortly after I got my Droid but I thought people would think that I was crazy...(much like a lot of the responses in this thread, LOL).

But anyway, I also have a "permanent" mark on one little part of my screen. It's not a circle, or a line. It's just sort of a random mark, maybe 1/4" long. It's been there since the day I opened the box, but as I look for it right now, it seems to have mostly gone away.

Anyhow, I figured that it was some chemical residue left over from the manufacturing process. It is NOT in ANY WAY caused by fingerprints or repetitious swiping. The oils from your face and hands simply make the marks stand out more than they otherwise would.

It's similar to if you had applied a coat of wax to only one area on your car. You wouldn't really notice it until it rains, but when the car is wet, it is VERY apparent where the wax is.

Can you take a macro picture of it? Or, if you can see it in those linked pictures, point it out?

I'm curious as I have nothing similar to that on my screen. Or had, I suppose.

Spooon, where I have the four photos check out the first on the left. U will see a straight line about quarter inch from top of phone.

To the OP - you said you bought it used. Did the person have to ship it to you and if so did he wrap the phone in bubble wrap? That can cause circular patterns like you mention which won't rub out. It would have to have been in direct contact with the glass.

pics up

alright couldnt find my camera so i dug out my old omnia i will say that camera was one of the best parts of it. Now for anyone looking at these the screen was cleaned to an eyeclean level with a microfiber cloth so that no imperfections were visible in ambient light. The pictures were taken in light sunlight and had been breathed on to fog up for clarity of the marks. This was done to show the screen was clean and not fingerprints. These are the same marks that catch all the grease then and are much visible all the time. Ive tried to be as clear as possible in describing the events of the situation.

EDT Nope got it from a guy locally he kept it face in a slide in holster. Phone was only four months old, and I know he didnt sell it because of the marks he couldnt afford the data plan. Traded him a brand new envy touch I got somewhere and some cash for it.

I too have a problem with a seemingly permanent mark on my Droid's screen. The way that it's off to the side, it almost makes me think that whatever it is, it's under the glass. :|

I'll leave the first picture here with the mark circled. The obvious spot in the center of the ring is what I'm referring to. The big smudge-like thing to the right of that... well... that's a smudge. My camera's battery was dying, and I didn't have time to take another picture without the smudge.

In the first pic, anything inside that circle I *can not* get off. It basically looks like a little sunrise, with that empty half-circle in the middle. Most of the time you can't see it, but if you catch it at the right angle (or take pictures with flash in a dark room) it's horribly obviously, and quite frankly, it looks awful. :(

I wish mine was that insignificant i prob have anywhere between 5-6 of these little whirls that are about the size of a pencil eraser dot. I didnt really notice them when i got it but the more anal i got about keeping it clean did they become more apparent.

that is strange. shot in the dark but i would guess it could possibly be moisture under the screen. i still have my razor i got in 2007 and it magically got moisture under the screen on it. it is still there to this day.

I see it now that you point it out. I thought that was a reflection in the screen when I looked at it earlier. To me, it looks almost like there was some type of pressure applied to that part of the screen, but it didn't quite crack it.

And rewdey, that does look very strange. Are they flush with the screen, or do they seem raised or concave at all? Could it be an imprint from something on the original owner's holster, or POSSIBLY be the result of the phone being kept near a heat source? I don't know, just speculating...

smirva80 it almost seems to me like its residue that left a permanent mark and ate into the glass ever so slightly or left a mark and is raised ever so slightly I still have the guys number im gonna text him and see what is up with it. for what i got it for ill keep its just very odd.
added another full shot where i greased the whole screen up with my finger to see better

Looking at the full screen shot, it looks like they're pretty evenly spaced next to each other. Very strange, but it definitely strikes me that something came in contact with the screen.

Finally met up with the guy to get the box and some of the paperwork he had on it I also secretly wanted to ask him about the marks on it and he swears he never saw it before. I kinda believe him I dont feel like it was anything he did, if anything it was that way to begin with. I keep the phone in my pocket with nothing else screen inside. Its the weirdest thing. I bought a CLEAR PROTECTOR brand shield for it and im wondering if I should still put it on or if i should take it to a VZW store to see what they say, Have a feeling i know what that will be.
