phone goes silent - people I"m talking to can't hear me

My wife's been having this problem in the 35 days she's had the phone. We replaced it two times during the worry free period. Now the phone sounds like the earphone speaker is blown and still drops calls and that weird mute "feature".

Anyone have any updates or suggestions? I've tried the *288 update and pulled the battery...

Mine acted weird like it was muted today as well, but wasn't actually muted.
My proximity sensor is broken so my screen will not come on during calls, so I know I couldn't have accidentally pushed mute. I slid the keyboard out to turn the screen on to double check that, and Mute was not enabled.
I need to get a refurb again I think
