Planning to get the Droid Razr Maxx

Wifey and I were both eligible for upgrades. We both have the Moto Droid I (yup, still running the originals - and still LOVING them!). So, went to Best Buy first, but their cell department was SO busy, we just walked down the way to Verizon. Amazingly, only 5 minute wait.

So we were debating the Maxx or the Droid 4 thing. We liked the keyboard on our old Envy 2 phones, but hate the keyboard on our Droid I's. The new Droid 4 has a nice keyboard, but we're SO used to the touch screen now, we quickly decided the Razr was the way to go. And of course, we picked the Maxx. After all is said and done, we pay up for all our stuff, and the phone is not in stock. Arrrrgh...! We got the BOGO deal (which we didn't even know about!), and had a $30 credit from somewhere (didn't ask, just took it - ).

So now we wait anxiously for next week to get our phones. Actually, they'll be in Tuesday (tomorrow) but we won't be able to go back until the weekend. We won't get a minute of sleep until we have them in our hot sweaty hands...

We'll keep prowling the Droid forums so we can hopefully hit the ground running. Shouldn't be too bad, since we've had our originals for over two years.

You will love the Maxx! Ecellent battery life, colorful videos, great phone reception and awesome durability. Use Smart Actions and Task Manager to reserve even more battery life. I'm a moderate to heavy user and I've tried my best to drain it but can't. I've gone 21 hours with 30% left. Very pleased!

They'll move the date? Because the date they can upgrade is the 28th, mine was like 6 months ago because I'm the main holder

Motorola Xoom: Team EOS ICS Nightlies

You got lucky... they wouldn't change my husbands date (which is today) so we could order both phones last Friday. Maybe they didn't want to push to change the date because we wouldn't miss out on the BOGO...

I went yesterday and paid for everything and they ordered his this morning. with any luck I will have them Tues or...Wed!!!

You will love the Maxx!

That's what we're counting on! Most people seem to have no problem with the battery life either. I sometimes wonder what folks DO with their phones that make them go dead so quickly. On the other hand, I've always got a charger nearby too. I'm a truck driver and I take my ciggy plug charger with me all the time, and when I'm home, the charger is but a few steps away.

I guess if I was in school and had to make the phone last all day (and I was constantly ON it...), this could be a problem.

Thanks for the 'encouragement'. As I mentioned, we can't wait to pick them up! ;)

Just jumped in on this phone. The Droid 4 is getting so hammered for its horrible screen, so that was out. The Galaxy Nexus was considered, but bad battery life on that once again has the Maxx winning out.

Even without BOGO (I have no one to add a phone for), $249 would be nice... however, I went with Amazon Wireless, for the $269 with NO sales tax. For those of you in states where Amazon still does not tax (like me in CA), this is always a good thing to consider.

Now I just have to wait until approx March 2nd. Argh... oh well, I've had my 0G droid for THIS LONG... I think I can stand waiting 11 or so more days. :icon_ banana:

;)

Of course, if you were in school how would you be on the phone all day? Oh, wait...never mind.

Anything you should know???

I went to the store today looking at phones. There were 3 that I was looking at primarily (Droid Razr Maxx, Droid 4, Galaxy Nexus). After having a chance to try each of them, the Droid Razr Maxx just stood out way above the others. I'm planning to get it soon, but I have some questions first.

(I apologize if these have been asked and answered many times before, but if they have, please point me in the right place if it's been discussed at length.)

- Is it worth the extra money between the Razr and Razr Maxx? The only additional thing is the battery, is the extra battery life worth another $50 to $100 (depending on where I buy it)?

- With a non-removable battery included, have there been problems restarting the phone if it freezes? Does it comes with a reliable way to restart the phone in these circumstances?

- How sturdy is the phone? How scratch-resistant is the screen and sides? Have there been any problems with phones breaking from incidents that most phones could survive?

- How is the camera? Are there any problems trying to take pictures with it in a normal, non-store environment?

- How is the sound quality for listening to music?

- Did you notice anything after purchase that wouldn't be noticed when looking at the phone in the store?

- Are there any features not included that you wish would have been?

- Would you recommend that a screen protector & case should be used with the phone? (Note: I don't care too much about thickening the phone up.)

- Are there any good deals available now to get the phone at a reduced price?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I'm trying to cover as much as I can. Any answers for any (or all) of these questions would help me out. Thank you.

The RAZR MAXX is definately worth the extra $$$$$. As long as you leave the house in the morning with a battery charged to 100%, you will never have to worry about needing a plug during the day. The battery life is what battery life SHOULD be on a phone. It's something you will no longer worry about. As for the case, I recommend the silicone case sold by Verizon. It fits like a glove and adds almost NO heft to the phone. You can get silicone or the equivalent cases online too for a lot cheaper. Just google "silicone cases for Droid RAZR MAXX." The build quality is excellent and you DON'T need a screen protector. The gorilla glass is fabulous. And as has been stated, if the phone freezes, instead of removing the battery (which you obviously can't) just press and hold the down volume button until it reboots....I've heard differing fixes here...also you can press power and either down or up volume buttons at the same time and hold until it reboots. The phone is perfect and by far the best smartphone out there. Motorola is also known for its great call quality. You can't go wrong. All I ever buy is Motorola. Hope this helps.

1. Absolutely. I wouldn't even consider regular razr.
2. Over the past month it hasn't frozen yet and there is supposed to be button press combo to hard reset like on pc holding power button.
3. I don't think you will find a more durable phone on verizon besides casio gzone phone.
4. Camera quality is decent but it's on a slow side. Don't expect to take images every second like on nexus.
5. Sound quality and volume are excellent.
6. The operating system isn't smooth and fast like ice cream sandwich.
7. Nfc and video projector.
8. Yes. There are very nice and cheap protectors and cases on ebay. I wouldn't pay more then $10 for both http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMOKE-SKIN-...Accessories&hash=item2c633169e6#ht_1228wt_908 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/6X-EZ-HD-Cl...ccessories&hash=item4cfecb36c2#ht_1392wt_1186 combined. Any more and you are getting ripped off.
9. Buy one get one free, and doesn't get better then that but you either have to be eligible for upgrade on both or start new line.
