Center-weighted metering was used in both pictures. Notice that Rich Tones produces a blue sky above the bridge.

Wow, Rich Tones changes the entire picture's feeling by enhancing the sky and minimizing the reflection of light from the water, without destroying the overall dynamics of the photo. Very nice.

Here are three approaches to shooting a backlit scene. The left-most picture was taken with the stock Camera app in auto mode. The middle one was taken with the stock Camera app set to Rich Tones mode. The right-hand one was taken with the HDR Camera + app.
