Potentially Grim News for Android: Apple Blocks Sale of Samsung Galaxy Nexus in U.S.

Apple is pretty lucky, since Android devices have been using voice search since like, Froyo or even earlier. The Android community and Google are taking the right approach by not going too crazy with patent lawsuits against one another or Apple. I've said it before and I'll say it again, all this crap Apple is pulling is RUINING to advance of technology. Well, maybe not ruining, but slowing it down. Now every company has to be weary that something that should be considered standard in a smartphone will now come under fire because Apple happened to make one of the first successful touch screen smartphones and apparently claimed all patents ever pertaining to them.

I enjoy Apple's computer products, but never will I even consider buying one of their phones. What they are doing is becoming borderline monopolization, and last I checked, THAT is also against the law.

Patent law needs to change, stat. This **** is getting out of hand. There is a certain set of core functionality that one would EXPECT to find in a smartphone these days. Our patent law is not viable for today's high tech world.

The tech world needs to be more like the automotive world. There's a reasonable expectation that a car will have 4 wheels, some type of frame, a body, an engine, a transmission, etc. And they all share a common "user interface" - steering wheel, pedals, shifter. I don't see Chevy suing Ford because they both make a car with a steering wheel, gas pedal, and front mounted engine.

EDIT: I also do not see how any of these things Apple claim are causing them "irreperable damage" is actually damaging at all. The only thing hurting Apple is the amount of time it is taking them to get a "modern" smartphone into the marketplace. For one thing, anyone who wishes to use 4G is essentially forced away from Apple, since none of their current phones are 4G capable. And the 3.5" screen is basically low-end phone material, nowadays. You can pack as many pixels into it as you want to, the fact of the matter is that it is still too dang small. Apple seems to be less into innovation these days, and more into suing everyone they possibly can. I swear, at this rate they are soon going to be suing everyone who says anything negative about them *LOL*

EDIT 2: Maybe people should sue Apple for the iOS 5.1 update changing the 3G indicator to 4G when connected to the HSPA+ network. Unlike LTE, HSPA+ is not a true 4G network and should never be represented as one.

I've used the automotive example before, and people here told me I was wrong....

Anyways, this is just because Apple is afraid and I'm sure Ms. Koh has a home filled with Apple products. Bet she tweeted about it on her iPhone..

Yes, but it is much more difficult for HTC, Samsung, Moto, and especially Google. I think the fact that Android is free opensource may mean that Google will have a hard time explaining why every other company can use it's tech and Apple can't. In addition since it is Free, google can't claim losses due to infringement. This is why Google bought Moto, to get some leverage when it comes to specific hardware patents. Otherwise, I don't know how apple can copy the notification curtain with no ramifications and Samsung and Moto can get sued because a stupid lock screen looks similar to IOS. Just my take.

They aren't suing Google, they are suing the phone manufacturers who do make money off phone sales

Pretty soon Apple will sue because Android phones can text, make calls, and take pictures.

They will claim they invented it and some stupid dumb judge will believe them. This is the apocalypse and I am your savior. Im making a small country in my backyard and Im banning Apple... Whos with me!!!?!!!

They would never be that stupid, its not that they are trying to rid the world of smart phones except the iphone but more rid the world of highend smartphone so that the competition was using single and dual cores while apple would be on quad core processors. They want to monopolize the highend smart phone market so that when someone comes into a verizon/at&t/sprint store and ask for the best smartphone they will automatically be turned towards the iphone where now it seems for me at least when i walk into one of those stores its almost completely android. Im not a lawyer but i would think in the eyes of the gov a smart phone is a smart phone and they probably dont see the difference between a low end and a high end phone.

Well now androids low end phones are as good as I phone in most ways. Plus they have 4g.

Greed and politics pure and simple. Apple has the social clout that Android lacks. You always see iPhones and iPads on TV shows, never Androids. Thus in the eyes of the uneducated masses, iPhone is God and Android is a mere wannabe.
