Pre-Order Xoom at Best Buy for $1,199

Is Motorola kidding us? My laptop was half that much and it probably does 5x as much. And we are being forced to buy 1 month of data? What? Um... I think HTC is going to see the majority of my business when my New Every 2 comes into effect in a few months.

I think all tablets are over priced for what their capabilities are, but this one takes the cake. When the ipad2 comes out the first one will drop to 100.00 bucks that's when I'll buy one.

Come on!!!!!! I hope this isn't true!!!!! If that is the case, then Motorola can forget of having a high sales with this product within its first quarter of sales.

Engadget updated and said it might just be a price place holder. My thing is....why not make the price place holder something thats not outrageous?

Pretty sure that's just a place holder number and will be back down to $800 on Thursday.

We've already seen the BB ad showing $799.

Well to be fair... people are willing to pay for convenience. How many bottles of water have you spent $1.50 for when you can buy 24 bottles for $4.00. You want the newest latest piece of tech, you pay for it. I mean really why should this product have to compete with the IPad price-wise if it's a better piece of technology. Don't get me wrong, i think this price sucks, lol. You can buy a beastly laptop for the same price. But at the same time a laptop won't offer the same convenience or operations as this tablet.

In the end, If this was the only tablet that would be available, i would be willing to toss this on the card, but since there are others the majority have the great option to look elsewhere.

I really hope this is not the price for this thing. I can seem them selling about 9 of them, if it really is the price. 800 is already too much for a tablet. Even if it does drop back to 800 it's really not much of a consolation to me.

Wow...were here goes another failed android tablet... I just dont understand with a free OS why are these so expensive?

My ASUS G73 I7 processor, 17 inch screen dedicated ati 8580 1 gig card and dual drive bay was only 1200 bucks...oh its a laptop.

Sigh... 2 words PLACE HOLDER. Stop FREAKING OUT.

And to those that still complain about $800...

It's pretty obvious that it's going to be more than an iPad. The new generation tablets are not going to be the same price as an iPad. So those of you saying "I can just buy an iPad" go ahead but you'll be getting nothing in comparison in specs.

Second, (forgot who said this from another thread) when you made the switch from your desktop to a laptop and payed more no one cried. You didn't say why am I paying more for a laptop? Simple, because it's convenient.

Last, when you go to customize a laptop on for instance, HP, the upgrade from a single core to a dual core is around $200-$250. So when you go from an iPad... then add a second core core with a bigger screen, Android 3.0, a rear camera, and the same weight... you should expect to pay a lot more.

Just my .02

If anyone pays that kind of money for a tablet then I suggest a head examination and they should be able to afford it if they can pay this.

Then again who knows how many foreclosures have been caused by phones/tablets and peoples needs to have "the latest."

Rumored price was around 800.00 which I felt was steep too.

^Completely agreed... even if you can afford it that is just a STUPID price to pay for what is essentially a large phone... The Dell Duo is looking better every week (i.e. the more we learn about the upcoming Android tablets the more disappointing they become).

Right but you are giving far too much credit to the average customer. Most people don't look at specs and say "ohh dual core I need this now" People look at brand name and price. For most of us here in the forum that is not the case, we are aware of the latest specs for the most part so we want the biggest and best. A LOT of people are going to be turned off by an $800 price tag for a tablet device. Yes they are convenient but they cannot do nearly as much as a laptop or pc. Look at the galaxy tab, that thing has had to lower it's price 3 times now and rumors are it's still not selling real well and the return rate is ridiculous. I am not expecting an iPad price but I was expecting a price that would make it comparable. Maybe 650 or so.
