Question re "main keys not working"

Okay so I posted this with the Rescue Squad yesterday and really did not get a response so I am posting this here in hopes of figuring out this mystery. Here it goes............

Saturday my husband's Droid's main keys (back arrow, menu, home, search) started acting funny. By funny I mean, he would push one of them and either it was totally non responsive or it would choose an action different from what was being asked and do it. This was intermittent so we pulled the battery and left it alone over night. Sunday it started doing the same thing only more. It is rooted so I thought okay maybe its something in the ROM but before I could try to change any setting those four buttons completely stopped working. I unrooted it and rebooted the phone and it was the same, no response from those four bottom buttons.

I have gone to VZ and they are sending me a "like new" Droid for my husband but I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen to them? I want to make sure its nothing I did because when we get his replacement Droid, I am going to root it again and I would hate for this to happen to him again. He is so lost without his Droid right now. He looks like a lost puppy dog, its sad.

I am having the same problem. The main keys stop working. This is my third replacement phone each time the main keys stop working and they sent me a like new phone. I had to reload all my apps and information each time. I like the phone but this problem is driving me crazy.

Did I miss something but nobody did a factory data reset?
