RadioTime for android

Probably won't be on any of the biggies, but if you look hard enough, you can usually find the game you want.

That hasn't been my experience in the last couple of seasons. MLB has blacked out all internet feeds of local stations to avoid competing with their own products.

This is not an internet feed, this is a stream of local stations. Not sure in what way they could block if it is being transmitted on the local station.

They are pulling the stations from online feeds of the network. Most of these will block out sporting events.

There are always the few that slip through however.

Since we have them in this thread, perhaps they can answer the question.

Radiotime, are your station streams blocked in any fashion?

Most stations are not allowed to stream professional sporting events.

+1 on mentioning this. It will be interesting to see if local baseball is carried during the season. (I suspect not due to MLB restrictions.) But the selection of local stations here in the Puget Sound is relatively good. Especially noteworthy is that a number of the "HD" alternate streams from stations are available.

Not all the stations available at radiotime.com are available through the Droid app. It's a good idea to check on the web to see if the stations you're interested in are available on the android stream.

BTW, for those interested primarily in NPR, the NPR News app now supports streaming of hundreds of NPR stations.

Not true. I am a Cubs fan and found a station that broadcast on its web feed. I do not want to list for fear that it will be taken down. If you search hard enough, you'll eventually find a station that Big Brother overlooked.

RadioTime,

I wanted to listen KZNE 1150am College Station TX and I saw on your website that it was available, but when I downloaed the app and searched, it wasn't available. What Gives?

Not all stations are available on the andriod app.

Kudos to RadioTime, one for their presence on this forum, and two for being the first dev that ever responded to my email with something other than a robot response. I have since bought the app, works fine for one of the two stations I wanted, the other is availabe on thier site, not on the app, so I'm happy, because the one that I get carries the talk shows I wanted. I would have bought the app anyway even if it did not have the stations I wanted, because of the fact that the dev actually responded to me. I am more than thrilled so far with the quality of this app, and I suspect I will get more than the 2.99 out of it that I paid. Go Radiotime!!! you smoke iheartradio by far, and will be recomended to more than a few of my friends.

Been using the app for about 24 hours now. I'm going to have to do some work, get some sleep, and eat. It is very simply a GREAT application!

I actually bought it simply to have a convenient way of accessing local stations but last night I discovered a wholly different use. Here's the story.

Last summer my wife and I adopted a five year old girl from Russia. Other than the minimal Russian we learned for initial communication, neither of us speaks Russian. That hasn't been a problem for our daughter; she has picked up English remarkably well in just a few months. (At five they do that.)

Unfortunately, though, she has lost touch with her Russian fluency and my wife and I can do little to compensate. We even have Russian friends but our daughter shows real resistance to speaking Russian with them. We'd more or less accepted this as inevitable. It's frequently the case with adopted children who quickly sense that using English is rewarded and using their native languages are not.

Last night, though, I found a children's music station from Moscow on RadioTime. I began to stream it on my Droid and gave the headphones to my daughter. She LOVED it. In a few minutes she was singing along with music and announced to us that she remembers hearing the song "a long time ago."

Of course, our daughter won't maintain fluency in Russian this way. But RadioTime provided a very precious experience for her and for my wife and me as our daughter was able to reconnect to her life before she came to live with us.

Thanks to RadioTime. I'm very grateful. And though the Droid wasn't really essential, I have to say, it's the most unique "Droid Does" moment I've experienced.

wow jsh1120 that is a very unique and cool story. I haven't even looked for foreign music, I am going to have to search for some stuff, as I'm a big fan of norwegian metal.

EDIT: WOW! I never thought to search by locations... i can listen to stuff all over the planet!

How is this vs. Flycast quality-wise? I don't care about content comparisons because my station is on both but I tend to have issues with Flycast buffering, however, it is free...

I'm finding Radio Time to be a great application the more I use it. The music options are limitless, and the talk radio options are great. I love listening to Clark Howard, and because his show is syndicated so much, it's almost always on somewhere...whenever I want to listen to it.

The only complaint I have is the accuracy of some of their listings. Sometimes I'll have to jump to 2-3 different feeds of a specific broadcast to find one that is actually playing what they say is playing.

I use DroidLive for archive shows like Phil Hendrie, Opie and Anthony, Ron and Fez, etc...which is great. Radiotime is good for all of the live stuff.

I have most of the other radio programs, but these are the only two I regularly use.

Radiotime,

Are there any plans to add a home screen widget?

+1 to that, and I would like to see an option to set up a favorites list, I found a great station out of poland I liked, but now I cant remember what it was, and cant find it again.

EDIT: they do have an option to do a favorites list, I'm just stupid, its the little heart. at the bottom. So really the only thing I would like to see is a home screen widget, the best size would be 2x2

Radio Time,

Is there an ETA for an update that will be able to include all the stations from the website that are broadcasting in other formats then MP3?

they have a very very small forum for the android platform on their site. I read that they will be supporting the wma format with an update that should be available in march, but remember, the 2.99 price on this is just a launch special, so I recommend buying it now because I think its like 9.99 for the crIphone
