Razr 4G sucks!!!

Its not just the razr, its all 4g phones. My nexus has the same issues you have all described. Sometimes ill get as fast as 37mbps down, sometimes I can barely hold one bar of 4g at 500kbps. Its a very fickle network still.

Don't hate on the razr, its a sweet phone.

As I stated Verizon said I did not have 4g at the 2 addresses I entered into their computerized system and when I couldn't contain myself no matter what I had to get the razr knowing I wouldn't have 4g at home or work. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever. Woohoo.

In need a razr to slice my lime.

Good move. Those maps can't be 100% accurate all the time, but they're the best approximation you'll get at this time other than the app I saw which gives live reporting from others who have it installed. I'll do some hunting and see if I can find it.

When you say "the Verizon coverage map covers" your area, are you speaking of the country-wide map visible on the page for coverage, or the one that lets you see coverage down to street level in your immediate neighborhood? If it's the latter, perhaps you are in a low-lying area and are only covered by 4G LTE Extended Coverage. I have done extensive research and posting on this subject.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you visit http://network4g.verizonwireless.com/#/coverage , and type in your physical address at the bottom left, click the RED "Am I covered", and then when it pops up, click the RED "View Coverage Map. There you'll get a detailed view of coverage for your immediate areas. Pay close attention to the color of the 4G coverage represented on the map. You are hoping for the DARK RED area as a best case scenario, but if in the medium RED area, you would hope to be close to the edges of the DARK RED. Try zooming in and out to get a clearer view of coverage at street level and regionally.

Please report back with your findings.

Okay. So I did your exact instructions and looking at the map, I am in a dark red area. According to you, this is the best coverage I can get by 4g and yet I don't get any 4g signal.

Wow! I'm in Richmond too. No 4G at all? How is the performance of your phone?

My razr is an awesome 3g phone as of now. Still trying to get at least the 4g to show up at the top. Its almost as if my phone just wasn't meant to be a 4g phone. I've had 4g for the first couple of days of having the razr and then since then I have yet to see 4g

All of that is still subjective to immediate geography. My mother-in-law lives in the middle of a heavy metro area (heavy Verizon presence) outside of Detroit & her house is a Verizon dead zone. Step outside to the curb & you get full signal.

Yeah, unfortunately those maps aren't updated as often as the system tweaks they might make, and as I said several times before the map is subjective. Believe me, I feel your pain and I'm just a lowly owner and subscriber just as you are. There are however MANY factors that play into why or why not you will get a 4G signal in a particular area. Feet above or below sea level, nearby topography (hills and valleys), building materials, large structures nearby, bridges, power substations or large metal structures, etc. Essentially anything that is in the path between you and the antenna can be the cause for reduced or no useable signal level.

What you now need to do is contact Verizon and let them know. Either dial *611 from your cellular phone or dial 1-800-922-0204. Ask for technical support and then ask for level 2 support if you can. You may have to explain the purpose of the request but you want to get to level 2 technicians because they are far more familiar with the issues of signal dropouts in particular areas. Once you have them on the phone, describe the problem, tell them you've mapped your house and street and you are clearly within the standard 4G LTE Coverage Area, and express your disappointment that you don't have 4G coverage.

No wireless communication is 100% failsafe, but it can seem like it is if you are in a prime location. On the other hand if you are in a fringe area or your specific location is bounded by one of the obove mentioned obstacles, you can feel like you're on an island while all around you are enjoying the 4G good life. I know just how you feel as I mentioned in an earlier post that I have 4G coverage until I reach my tiny little cul de sac which sits several dozen feet below the streets around me and leading to mine, and then I lose 4G and drop to 3G. If I stand on my house's roof peak and hold the phone over my head, I have 4G. I certainly don't do that as a routine but I did it to see if there was any rhyme or reason to the signal dropping from full 5 bars to nothing in a matter of only several hundred feet. Sure enough, it's the altitude of my home.

I can't help but LOL @ the original post. I sold my Razr for the Razr Maxx back on Thursday. The Maxx should be delivered today and for the last 5 I've been using my OG rooted droid. If you want truly horrendous...then go back to using the OG droid after using the Razr.

Sounds like the no apparent reason is a tower upgrade. That's what finally caused me to get 4G..noticed my 3G had markedly better connect and found out they had installed more robust 3G equipment when they upgraded the tower 1000 ft from my house to LTE

Must have done the same in my neighborhood. A few months ago my 3g coverage was fair now it's great and now that I have a Maxx 4g is great too!

Maybe. I've had the Razr since 11/11/11. Had great 4G in the house until 3 weeks ago. It just disappeared. 3G all the time in the house. Called Verizon (all documented in this thread). Got the OTA upgrade still only 3G. Until yesterday suddenly and magically!
