Razr Maxx HD vs. Galaxy s3

I found that interesting too, especially since I signed up for notifications thru Motorola. Never got that either! Maybe a marketing ploy ...

I agree there. I too had the LG Voyager and the LG Dare too. The Dare had the great camera lens on it.

Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX HD

I loved my LG dare! It was like having a smartphone to me back then. Then the DROID was on all those commercials and I was like OMG that's the phone I was MEANT to have and I WILL have it. So i gave my mom the dare which she is still using(this week she's upgrading to my bionic). But yeah I still have a soft spot for LG.

I had the LG Dare right before I got the Droid Incredible, then when my Incredible got water damaged I used my sister's old Droid Eris * shudder* till I could replace it with a Droid 2 I got of ebay. I'm due for an upgrade now buy I'm holding off till the holidays since I want to choose from all the latest offerings, and maybe get a data deal from verizon that they run around the holidays since they'll be forcing me to lose my unlimited:-(

The Dare was a decent feature phone though and it did have a pretty nice camera for a 3 MP shooter.

Ugh, I'm really stuck between these two. Does anyone have any advice? I like to flash ROMs, but I really prefer the Razr HD's looks and feel. I know it has an encrypted bootloader, but haven't Moto devices received decent support from devs in the past despite this??? How's the dev support on the M so far?

Also, how does the SG3 do on running stock ROMs? My Thunderbolt, an unlockable bootloader device, runs like crap on stock Android, and I've been stuck with Sense. Also, I've been stuck on Gingerbread ROMs, because the Thunderbolt can't get ICS working properly until a decent build is either leaked from VZ or finally released.

I loved flashing ROM's on my TB and GS3, but only because the stock experience was awful. The MAXX HD is almost stock Android, so I see no reason to install a custom ROM. I just rooted, installed TiBu, and froze/removed all the bloatware.

As far as the TB, what ROM's did you use? Up until Friday I was running Jester's AOSP ICS build with no issues at all (except for video recording), but no lag, no reboots, no data issues, etc. I also ran Thundershed 1.6 which was a 2.3-based AOSP ROM and had no issues.

I agree with Geoff. I loved flashing roms on my og Droid but you had to because the motoblur was horrible. With my Razr Maxx and now, with my Razr M, I have felt no desire to flash any roms. I rooted my Maxx (haven't yet on my M) and could've flashed a rom easy enough but was too busy enjoying and tweaking the phone as it was.

The OG Droid didn't have Motoblur, it was pure Android. Did you have a Droid 2 instead?

Yeah, I'm still up in the air. From what I'm reading though, the camera is stinko on the Razr HD. Also, the GS3 has a replaceable battery and the extra GB of RAM might lean me towards getting a GS3. I just feel so silly because I could have had this since July, and now I'm getting a 4 month old phone. I thought I'd wait for the new Nexus, but from everything that's been leaked, I'm not interested (no sd slot, no removable battery, made by LG, extremely limited storage, yuck!).

I tried the camera at the store yesterday, i don't know why people are disliking it so much. The shutter speed was better than my RAZR and the picture quality looked great. Granted i want able to see what they looked like on a big screen, but still. Also the screen looks great! Very brilliant. And the phone seems really snappy as well. I would like to play around some more, but from that limited experience I would definitely be pleased with that purchase

I think the camera may be less consistent and worse in low light than Iphone5, GS3 or One-X (due to the sensor not featuring back-side illumination) and that's why it's getting dismissed as bad. It's probably on par with what was best cameras in 2011 but it's the end of 2012 so for top end of the line like the Maxx HD is, the reviewers expected top of the line results and when they didn't get them they automatically stated that the camera is bad where it's simply good but not as good as the best ones.

Engadget stated that the camera is good and proved it with video and picture samples. They got a bit scorched in comments on the fact that they stated that Motorola cameras have always been good where really the opposite is true.

I was in the same boat as you. But after tons of research on the HD, S3, and incX I caved in and got the S3.

This phones sw features have revolutionized the market and I couldn't be happier.

It was the og droid but the UI was very drab... I just assumed it was motoblur, although I rooted it soon after I got it and tried a different rom every month so spent very little time with it.

I noticed the same thing. I went to the Verizon store, tried out the GS3, MAXX HD, and my current TB by taking a picture of one of their display signs and then zooming in. The RAZR HD had by far the best image in terms of sharpness, contrast, and quality. However when I tried taking photos myself during an overcast day, and also in bright sunlight, the images were far worse. I'm hoping that a software update can fix some of the camera issues.

Both phones are great. I don't think you will be disappointed with either choice.

I chose RAZR MAXX HD because:

1. I just like the feel of the phone; it has a more solid build.

2. The GS3 fixed buttons seem dated.

3. The battery life of the RAXR MAXX HD cannot be beat.

4. I prefer the simple more vanilla Android OS of the RAZR to the S3's TouchWiz.

5. The battery life.

I admit I liked the screen of the GS3 a little better; it just seemed a bit more crisp. But this was a detailed side-by-side comparison; in everyday use you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. The RAZR HD display is great.
