Razr tethering

I used Bluetooth to tether my Razr to an iPad 2. It worked well when I used 3g on the Razr, but would only work intermittently when the Razr had 4g running. The Bluetooth remained connected, but the iPad could not seem to handle the faster 4g data connection.

Currently own a windows phone and have been looking at the Razr but love the fact that I can usb tether my windows phone without any problems and to date have not had any issues with Verizon even with some months data exceeding 20GB. My question is do you think I can accomplish the same thing with a Razr?

If so what all is needed and where can I find the steps to implement?

I have always used easy tether (usb tether) from the market for free tether without root.

As @fascinateme stated, EasyTether app is the way to go. I downloaded it last night and USB tethered to my laptop. Worked great for 3g and 4g networks on my phone. The app and website both have easy-to-follow instructions. Go to the Android Market and look up EasyTether Pro. Read the description and visit their website for the PC drivers you need to download. The app takes you step by step to set up the tether.

Can you post the steps? I can't make it work

Installed WiFi Tether on my RAZR, works fine. My question is, I'm going to in the hospital for a week starting Friday. Will WiFi Tether support multiple devices, ie multiple laptops at one time? My wife and kids will be with me quite a bit, and I want to make sure that I have plenty of data to keep them occupied. Thanks.

Which wifi tether program did you use?
Can't answer your question as I've never used it.

Installed Wifi-tether on my Droid 2 this AM and worked perfect between my laptop and phone. Will only use it when the CAT is sleeping in my chair and can't use the cable.

Will definitely donate. Great job dev's

Searching on 'Wifi-tether' in the Market brings up a bunch of apps. Which one did you get that you are happy with? thanks.

It can support multiple devices. But how fast the data will be on each device is gonna be questionable. And how good of a signal you have at the hospital. Maybe the hospital will have some free wifi :P do a test run at home. Connect multiple devices and see how fast it is.

Yes, the hospital may have free wifi. If you are going to use your cell, check if they have regulations about it. I used to work in Critical Care as an RN and we had rules about it. But if you're going to be in there for a bit, you can ask to have their Biomedical Devices person check your phone to make sure it won't interfere with anything and then you can use it. I'd never seen one that caused problems, but they did need to get a tag on them that they'd been checked.

Just my opinion but, 20GB is what causes the carriers to crack down on this type of stuff. What we are doing is violating our TOS and we should be a little more cognizant of the amount of data we use illegally. I've always compared it to speeding....yes it's illegal to go 5MPH over the speed limit but you can probably get away with. Go 50MPH over the speed limit and you are asking for major trouble.

Well, im sure its not what you are looking for but just as an FYI it can also tether through Bluetooth.
I am using my Razr to tether with my wifi Xoom with no rooting or extra apps with no problems.

Thank you for this most helpful tip! Just did my iPad 2 to my RAZR and it worked. I'm only on 3G but I'll try it the next time I'm in a 4G area.
