RAZR vs Galaxy Nexus vs. Rezound

Yep, had an original droid, passed it on to the wife when I got the thunderbolt.

No phone has seen such abuse...more scratches than paint. Been dropped a million times of concrete, mauled by my 2 year old.

Oh and the screen is totally shattered, not cracked, shattered. And the display still works, not perfectly but still functions.

I think the new razr will be even tougher.

And you gave that shattered phone to your wife?? You're a brave soul. My wife would throw it back in my face.

I hate to break it to you, but a global phone isn't going to mean anything to you when you go to travel and find out vzws new international rates. Highest data package is 200mb (you will use more than that just in background data) and is $100+ overages on top of your current data plan, and requires you to switch to tiered data to use it. And they cannot offer any old international rates either, they arent even in their computer systems. And no international texting packages. Just $.50 per txt sent, and that adds up quick. Voice varies by country, but isnt cheap either. You will mostlikely buy a prepaid phone while traveling abroad. I worked for VZW customer service up until a couple months ago, and my friends that still work there tell me that it hasn't changed.

That's what I do now, just buy a pre-paid phone when I travel. I may just continue to do that if VZW is so out of line with any international pricing. I've never priced it as I don't have a global phone now so it wasn't an option. Thanks

I think the main factors for everyone seems to be if you want to root and rom your phone, and the build quality.

If you want to root and rom your phone then the Nexus is your phone.

If you want good build quality then the RAZR is for you.

If you want both then that sucks because there isn't both.

I don't care about rooting. I only did it on the Droid because it was the only way to keep it working.

These phones have enough speed and memory to stay stock.

True dat. One more thing: if you want the best actual telephone, motorola.

Yes, since the unlimited international data plan (which really was outstanding value) went away, the only reason to use the Vodafone SIM is if either a) someone else is paying! or b) you REALLY need to be able to be called on your US number. So, get the phone unlocked and use local SIMs. That way you keep your familiar phone and pay reasonable rates.

But as described above, the RAZR ISN'T global, and, just looking at some guess specs for the Rezound (HTC Rezound Full Specifications And Price Details - Gadgetian) neither is that, so none of these phones are global!

Here is all the factors for both phones. (That I could think of at the time.)

Galaxy Nexus

1. Has a 720p screen.

  • Good for viewing video and pictures.
  • Text will be really clear.
  • ICS's native resolution support it 720p. Anything else is non-native.
  • You can view more content at once without the need to scroll to see more.
  • Its a Pentile screen but with the resolution so high you won't be able to tell.
  • The best screen on the market so far.
2. Its a Google phone.
  • It will get all updates first.
  • Stock Android 4.0.
  • New things from google will probably get released on the Nexus first. (ex. Google Wallet)
  • Can be easily rooted, rom'd, and overclocked.
3. Specs
  • Build quality is pretty good. Has aluminum frame. Looks better then previous Samsung phones.
  • Radio quality can't really be said since its not released. Samsung could have done something with it.
  • Processor is a little bit better. It has the OMAP 4460 and the RAZR has the 4430. The only major difference is the GPU is clocked faster in the Nexus.
  • Camera is 5MP but has a panorama mode and instant shutter feature. Samsung camera have always been better then rest.
  • 1gb ram.
  • Comes with NFC.

RAZR

1. Has a qHD screen.
  • Not as high of resolution as the Nexus.
  • Also has Pentile. It might be noticeable since there isn't as many PPI (Pixels per inch). Probably isn't as noticeable as bionic or even noticeable at all because of Super AMOLED
2. Its Motos phone.
  • Updates won't come as fast as the Nexus because Moto has to skin it with MotoBlur and then Verizon has to review it and then release it. ICS is scheduled for 6 weeks after ICS is released.
  • Its bootloader is locked. You will still be able to root it and put roms on it but no kernels. Kernels can make a differnece!
  • Isn't stock android. Has MotoBlur on top.
  • Will be released with GingerBread.
3. Specs
  • Build quality is the best out of others.
  • Radio should be really good if they have the same radio quality as previous phones.
  • Camera is 8MP but no shots have been released(?) so can't compare to Nexus.
  • 1gb ram.
  • Graphics isn't clocked as high as Nexus.
Will probably add stuff to this later as I think of things to add.

There are other reasons to root. Biggest one for me is the ability to back up apps and their associated data. Also to run a cache cleaner and ad blocker.

You can do a lot with rooting. Block ads. Backup apps. Install roms.
Roms can add a lot of features that aren't in stock. Look at CM7 it has a TON of features that aren't in stock gingerbread.

I ordered the Razr as phone use and quality were paramount.
But after I compared Bionic whose screen background looked
like it was made of canvas and the G SII screen I was concerned
about comparing the Nexus and Razr screens and I am still concerned.
I thought the Razr spec reference to Super Amoled Advance might mean
it would be close to the G SII Super Amoled Plus. Maybe not.

I will be buying the Motorola RAZR.

I have owned the OG Droid and the Droid X. Both were fantastic phones with solid build quality. My reception was never a problem and the DX with the very slender extended battery would last forever. I switched to the Samsung Droid Charge because of the front facing camera, 4G, and the SAMOLED screen. I freakin hate it. It dies ALL the time, the phone and data connection suck compared to every other phone I've had, and the stock build of Android was sluggish and, too me, freakin ugly. Don't even get me started on RAM. I have rooted and ROM'd every Android phone I have had and my DX on Liberty has been the best experience I had with a phone. The RAZR with the SAMOLED screen I feel will be a huge plus I just hope the battery isn't short lived like the charge.

RAZR
+SAMOLED 4.3" Screen
+Not a Samsung phone
+Have had outstanding experiences with Motorola Droid phones
+Micro SD Card Slot
+Charging port on top so you can plug it in and watch something in a stand, unlike the Thunderbolt. lol
+All the hardware computing specs like dual-core, RAM, etc.

-Not launching with ICS
-Not a fan of Blur anything
-Locked bootloader and junk

~Waiting on how battery life will pan out to be, especially with the sealed design. If it's as easy to swap out as an Iphone I'm not worried though.

Nexus
+Ballin SAMOLED HD Screen
+Launching with ICS
+Unlocked bootloader

-No Micro SD
-5MP Camera
-I hate the flimsy plastic backs on a lot of the Samsung phones
-Have had a bad experience with the Droid Charge. =P

~Still need to see battery life on this one as well

Rezound

~I have no idea. lol
