Can you send me an email (use the email us button in dvdcat) and provide me with some of your computer specifications, such as Windows-version, and what DVDs you tried?

I sure wish there was an ONLINE site to download from those that have converted and does not mind sharing with others. I am not tech enough to do all this nor have the funds to download that software. I would love to put a movie or two on my droid when I get it next month for my kids when we are in a boring environment for my kids.. :(

Katndog : I have eight movies on my droid for my grandson when we are out. I used anydvd and dvdcatalyst. I give both of these programs five stars!!! It is worth the time and anydvd gives you 30 days trial period before you have to buy. The quality is awesome and I have not had any problems to speak of. They both are fairly easy to do.

I didn't have time to read all the 16 pages of threads so I hope this wasn't covered. I downloaded the catalyst free version today and the trial version of catalyst 3 today. I converted the movie avatar using both. To me I hear more of a difference using the trial version over the free but the moves seem to be grainy on both of them a little more on the free version. With Catalyst 3 I used the verizon Droid preset and didn't touch anything else. I also noticed there is a Droid, droid hq, and droid hq2 preset. I tried all 3 and they all look the same. Oh btw im using the droid X.
I also noticed the full version of catalyst 3 (3.90) said its now preset for Droid X. I started to buy it but wanted to make sure that the rip/ conversion/ getting on to droid the the video would come out better, hoping I am just doing something wrong.
I downloaded a sample trailer of District nine off here that dvdcatalyst posted and the picture/ sound where fantastic.

Anyways before I buy I was wondering if this is normal or did I do something wrong.

Hi Budda,

Thanks for trying DVD Catalyst.

The "grainyness" is tied to the quality (and thus the file-size)

DVD Catalyst Free has a fixed quality that produces a good quality, but for faster movies, you would probably want to use a higher quality setting. DVD Catalyst 3 uses slightly higher quality settings for the standard Droid profile, but if you want good quality, selecting the Droid HQ profile would be a better choice. The HQ2 profile, which is used for most of the trailers in my trailer thread uses the maximum settings the Droid can handle, and while some people use it for their movies, for small clips it works great, but for full movies, I rather have a few more movies in good quality than a few at
great quality.

DVD Catalyst 3.90 was released, but after a week of receiving questions and issue reports, I decided to pull it and make sure the issues that people were having were eliminated (and at the same time add a few more options) 3.90 is currently in beta, and while it does have Droid X profiles, the specifications for the X and the original Droid (as well as the 2) are identical when it comes to video.

I hope this answers your questions.

It does very much, and thank you for taking time to answer. One last question. If I buy the current version of catalyst, when the new updates come out is it updated for free or do I have to rebuy it again. I know it may sound like a no brainer but I bought a software (much like this one) years ago for a BB and when they put updates to there product you had to buy the updates. For example if you bought 3.88 and 3.89 come out it would cost you a good 30bucks again.

You are very welcome.

Upgrades within every minor version are free, so going from 3.86.2 to 3.90 is a free upgrade. Normally I would charge for an upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0, but because 4.0, when released, is the first major version I release that is not a complete new program (with all my previous major versions I started from scratch) it will be a free upgrade as well.

In the program, just click on the cat-eyes to update to the latest version.

Just wanted to say thanks. This is a great program and extremely easy to use. (This from someone who has never done this sort of thing before). I've successfully converted several dvds flawlessly, which is actually amazes me. I was having trouble with a BBC production (Planet Earth), but I think you addressed that in your post regarding AnyDVD, which is what I'll try next. Thanks again :)

Thank you for using DVD Catalyst.

Let me know if you have any questions.

hello all. I recently purchased dvd catalyst 3 to put movies on my dx. the program rips my dvds fine... but when i transfer them to the x i get audio but no video. what is the best format to use for transfereing the files? Also they play fine on the computer so i know it is ripping them correctly.

Hi Ruger,
Thank you for using DVD Catalyst.

What format in DVD Catalyst do you have selected?

The original Droid profiles are the ones to use (they use the exact same specifications for video). Some people have reported some complications with the Droid HQ format (which is strange because the HQ2 profile is nearly identical, except for the higher bitrate settings)

Is your phone overclocked? Some people reported issues with video playback in general after overclocking their phone.

Did you try a "battery-Pull" and see if that helps? Some people reported issues with video playback with working files after they tried to play a non-working file.

Can you download one of the clips from my Trailer-thread and see if that plays?

Thank you for the fast reply. In the spot where it says conversion format, it had selected h264_ipod_hq. Is that correct? i didn't change the setting. I did try a battery pull. same result. and i have the video player set to android.... droid hq2.

You are welcome,

The Droid / Droid HQ and Droid HQ2 profiles are the ones to use.
Screensize 854x480 or 848x480, video quality from 700-1500Kbps
Audio 128-160Kbps
Conversion format h264_ipod or h264_ipod_hq

Based on your message, that is most likely what you are using.
The Droid HQ profile uses 1000Kbps, and some people have reported issues with that in the past. The HQ2 profile uses 1500Kbps, and no-one has reported issues with that before.

The movies you have, were they converted from DVD or from other video files?

Did you try one of my trailers?

HA! I'm an idiot. User error. Thank you so much for your help. Program is amazing once i stopped being a moron. I will recommend it to all my friends. I will also give a heads up to all of our droid purchasers at work (Best Buy).

Thank you again!
