Re: The OTA for rooted users.

Alright, so what exactly are you supposed to do with this? I'm in the process of downloading the leak. I've read on how to flash it but once I do that will it restore my phone? I guess I'm just confused that if you flash something that wipes your data, how would you recover your settings without it taking away the update? If that makes any sense at all...lol >.<

The Official OTA made my phone reboot like 6x a day. Routed and haven't had a problem, but haven't updated. How many people have had reboot problems with rooted OTA?

So you rooted and wen S-Off with the newest OTA with no problems? I assume you used ADB?

I used the 3 part auto root. And i read that it would downgrade and take off the OTA update when it rooted the phone. I haven't had a reboot problem sofar, so I haven't down loaded the Rooted OTA. Was just wondering if people s were still having issues wit rooted version?

OK so i have a rooted TB. Got the phone at the end of April. I haven't installed any new roms or updates. with the announcement of Gingerbread coming to verizon at the end of june what should i do?

Install any gb ROM now. Good luck on an official gb being released in June.

I've installed several ROMs on my OG Droid and have been running Thundersense on my TB. For some reason I am not grasping this whole 'flashing the radio' business. I want to install the GB update to my rooted TB but until I figure out the radio stuff I'm hesistant.

First of all can someone dumb down the flashing the radio for me? Is this a separate file I'm downloading and installing? Does it install via clockwork? So do I place the file on the SD card, boot to clockwork, run the file and then run the ROM install? If so, where do I get the radio file? Is it posted somewhere and I'm just missing it?

I'm currently running a Froyo based ROM so I'm assuming I won't be able to use that with this GB update installed. The last GB ROM I saw required flashing the radio but I didn't know where to get the radio file. I dunno, its freaking me out for some reason because I'm not grasping what's happening here with the radio stuff. blargh...

Then there is this:
"The first thing that you need to do is download your update. If the file you downloaded is not named PG05IMG.zip then you need to rename it. If you are using your computer to rename, be sure not to rename it PG05IMG.zip.zip this will prevent it from installing. Any deviation in the name of this file will prevent proper installation.
Once the file is downloaded and named correctly, you need to put this file in the root directory of your SD card. This is the main directory, not in any folder.

Now that you have made all the necessary preparations, it is time to flash the update.
1. Power down your phone.
2. Press and hold the down volume button and power back on phone.
3. Continue to hold the down volume button until you see the Hboot screen.
4. In the Hboot screen, you will see the phone start to examine your new file.
5. When prompted push the volume up button to start the update.
6. When the update is complete you will be prompted to push the power button to reboot the phone. Reboot by pushing the power button.
7. Once the phone reboots, you need to delete the PG05IMG.zip file from your SD card, or move it out of the root directory. Failure to do this will cause problems installing Roms and Kernels later.

That’s all there is to it. You have now flashed the new file."

I don't see any mention of how to get or install the radio in those steps? I understand the process of running the update.

Easy. Here you go. You will need to flash one of these 2 radio's for a GB ROM:
[RADIOS]MR2 and MR2.5 radios - xda-developers
I have found the most success with MR2. Download that file for MR2.
You can do it either way. You can rename the file PG05IMG.zip and put in on the root of SD and boot into recovery (can be done either by VOL down and power or much easier if you have Clockwork Mod by in app choosing boot into recovery) and it will reboot and allow you to select apply PG05IMG.zip now. That will flash the radio then the CM menu will go back to reboot phone now option. Done, now the phone firmware is using the newer radio. OK to flash a GB ROM.
You can also try to flash the radio file from within Clockwork Mod by choosing flash ROM from SD card and browse to where you have the radio zip file stored, and it basically automates the same process as outlined above, however most people recommend not doing it this way.

I would use the first method and once rebooted delete the PG05IMG.zip from root of SD so you don't get confused when flashing your new GB rom.

FYI - ROMS and kernels flash just fine using the second easy method with ClockworkMod(at least for me anyway)

Hope that helps.

Ryan

Thanks for helping me sort this out.

I did the PG05IMG.zip yesterday and I have no 4G anymore. I haven't installed a ROM yet, back to stock from the looks of things. So that zip file was a Radio flash only and not the full Gingerbread update that non-rooted users were getting? I'm sure the post at xda said it was the Gingerbread Update for rooted users. If it was only the radio, why am I back to stock? #headdesk

I absolutely hate to always sound like an idiot when I ask the same questions over and over again, but I have the MR2 leaked for non-rooted flashed on my phone. I want to root, flash the new MR2 for rooted folk, and then maybe put on a ROM, but not right away.

What are the EXACT order of steps I need to do this?

Flash radio, root.
Root, radio.
root, flash radio, root, brick, drive nails into hands, root again?
root, radio, root again?

I read different steps from everybody and it confuses me to no end! Right now I just want to flash the OTA for rooted people, but do I need to root first? Or flash first? Im so confused!!!:icon_eek:

Geeze, where was I, lol. Hold on, I'll get you a more up to date thread.
