Real Life with the Nexus?

I traded my Nexus for the Rezound. Too many problems with the Nexus. The Rezound is awesome and they just dropped the price down to $199 today, which makes it a steal (especially when it comes with $100 headphones). Also, if you're joining the military, it's my understanding that the Rezound is a world phone, while the Nexus isn't.

So I understand you correctly when I say this is a global capable phone? With my job, I will more than likely be deployed, probably middle east, so I really would like a phone that works over there. If worse comes to worse, I do still have my D2G, but I don't want to have to revert back after dropping $200-300 on a phone.

I use a pair of Sony BT headphones that are fantastic. Would not surprise me if the "Beats" headphones are way overrated, certainly $100 is an inflated retail nobody would pay.

All 3 phones, and the D4 too, are excellent all-around phones. Personally I think the developer support for the Nexus is overrated. Unless you are hardcore into theming and roms and flashing is like a personal hobby/obsession, the Rezound will do just fine with it's developer support - you can already remove Sense and all the bloat and can do plenty of other stuff.

With an active lifestyle, you'll probably want something like the Otterbox Defender for any phone so I don't think durability should really be a factor.

Now, the Nexus does have @ 27gigs of useable storage, so hardly paltry. But I just ordered a 64gig card for my Rezound (should work, but we'll see) and I'll have @ 85gigs of useable storage.

I don't think you'll be less than 100% satisfied with any of these choices.

i have the Commuter, and i had the Defender. Both very good case. Defender is crazy sturdy, just dont expect to getr it in or out of your pocket easily. thr outside rubber grab the inside of your pants. the Commuter is very nice and has saved my phones life on a couple of occasions

Alright thanks, I will definitely take all of this into account. You guys have been very helpful!

Stock, it seems like the Nexus has a lot more bugs then the Rezound. However, once rooted with roms everyone has seemed to stop reporting any issues. And the battery life I have is amazing. Once the Nexus gets another update for stock users and the bugs people have been experiencing are gone, I think(I already think) it of easily the best phone out.

However, it seems as though the Rezound is the phone for you if you can't be sold on the cloud storage.

Someone mentioned earlier that flashed memory is faster than an SD card. Is this a noticeable difference?

Well that's a pretty important consideration for you then. I don't think any of these are global capable. I saw the rumor about the Rezound being as such, but makes no sense why VZW wouldn't tout a 4G phone that's also global-capable.

Yeah might want to find out 100% if the Rezound is global, if not, you might be looking at the wrong phones.

I think the last global phone was the Droid 3?

Yes. But the Rezound has like 11 gigs of useable on-board memory. It really depends, the read/write lag with an SD won't matter for many uses/applications - never had a problem with my music on the SD and probably faster than the cloud. The card I'm getting is Class 6, so it should be plenty fast (Droid had only Class 2, and aside from backing-up and transferring files I never noticed it being "slow"). I got that 64gig card for my music, videos and other files. I'll probably keep my "on-board" storage free so I can take advantage of the speed for taking pics and video.

I've posted up a similar thread in the Rezound board, so I'll ask over there.

Another question, and I'm sorry I'm being lazy tonight and not following my own FAQ by googling this myself, but with the Cloud, does that work pretty well with the Nexus? Like is it a pretty good mesh, or are there various hoops to jump through? I set up that abomination the iCloud for my mom on her iPad 2, and that was utter garbage. I hope this Cloud from Google is better.

As far as I know it is a global phone. Read the thread in the link I provided. It gives more detail.

That's my idea too. I've taken up a rather nasty hobby of filling up my PS3 with movies, and I'm thinking if the Nexus has that gnarley screen, why not put it to use with some music videos or movies? Does your phone support that card? Seems like I read the phones only wanna play nicely with 32 GB or lower?

VERY helpful! I will call up VZW tech support tomorrow and see what I can do. Because I would love to be able to have the Rezound function as more than a glorified mp3 player while deployed.

Is it for sure that the Nexus cannot go global? From what I understand some phones can go onto seperate providers if it is unlocked? I am fairly confident when it comes to rooting and messing with root files, and such. So if that was the case, I could certianly do that.

The Google Cloud is just for music (correct of wrong) but VERY easy, atleast on mac. you download the app; input your email and pass; upload you stuff and viola, done. i dont know of a service that lets your stream video like google music does for music. IF youre going to fill your phone up with movies and IF the Rezound supports 64gb card, then thats a huge +1 for th Rezound

People are reporting the cards work on the RAZR and Bionic. Some have had no issues, others seem to have some glitches. Don't think anyone has had them long enough to know for certain. It should work on the Rezound, or probably any Android phone. The OEM's don't support it and don't advertise it but it's a newer tech that is apparently compatible with the format system that was thought to be limited to only 32gigs.

Even then, I have 40gigs of music right now. I COULD probably cull half that, but I don't feel like taking the time. So if I'm ultimately "stuck" with a 32gig card I'll still have 14gigs more storage than on the Nexus. It's a material advantage the RAZR and Rezound have over the Nexus, but I'm sure you could get by pretty easily.

Yeah it is. I have close to 40GB worth of media (movies/music). So I don't mind swapping out media, because obviously I won't listen to 13GB of music in one day, or watch 25GB worth of movies in a week. Thanks for the input guys! I just realized my thread to the Rzound board was never put in, so I'll probably fool with that tomorrow. You guys have been exceedingly helpful!
