Really want to root, but I'm scared.

The chances of you bricking your phone by rooting is very very very low. You would have to TRY to brick it in order to do so.

Head on over to rootyourdroid.info and they have a great guide with pictures and everything...as well as many that are on this forum. I can't say anything about the ones here, but i used the rootyourdroid guide and it worked perfectly and without any issues.

I am running at 1GHz and haven't had any heat problems for the 4 days it has been there. I used the phone pretty heavily yesterday with lots of surfing as well as benchmarking and apps and no overheating...it gets noticeably hotter, but nothing I am concerned about.

I would say...just root it!! The amount that I have learned from rooting and flashing ROMs makes this so much more fun...

Quick Question and i didn't want to make a new thread about it. If you have insurance through verizon and you brick your phone, would you be able to get a replacement? I'm sure it voids your insurance but the insurance also cover accidental and lost or stolen.. So getting another phone wouldn't be a problem right?

Again sorry to the OP for thread jacking.

well i guess you could report your phone stolen. if they see you tried rooting, they will not honor the insurance

Alright I'm about to follow that guide...can someone link me to a guide that shows me how to get my phone running at 800mhz when I'm done rooting?

Sorry and thanks!

Here you go:
AllDroid - View topic - [ROM] Bugless Beast [950MHz & Wifi] V0.7.2 (2/1/10)

this ROM lets you pick an OC of 800 or 950.

so doing this will update(install) what exactly? does the whole OS get updated(installed, changed)?...I really only want to OC to 800 and leave everything else....

sorry LOL....feel so LOST!!!!

I'm lost too lol. Do we need to do that "update.zip" again after we already do it in the other guide on rootyourdroid.info?

I had a jailbroken iphone. There was nothing to worry about when jailbreaking an iphone because there is like a .0000000001 chance of something bad happening, but it seems like a lot more problems can happen from rooting the droid.

I want to root to be able to run at 800mhz and have all the 2.1 stuff. I don't have any insurance on my phone, so if I bricked it, that would be it.

Questions:

1. How likely would it be to brick it?

2. Is there an exact step by step guide on rooting?

3. Can I go back to stock if I need to?

4. Have there been any reports of overheating at 800mhz?

5. Is there an app that shows the temperature that the phone is running at (to make sure it doesn't get too hot)?

Thanks.

I was scared the first time I had sex. You get over being scared pretty quickly.

I wasn't, because I didn't have to pay for it after I was done.
