[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

Hmmmm I just unbricked my phone last night so I might hold off on all this fun for a few... I would however like to flash the 5.6.890 through RSDLite and stay uprooted... I just to have my phone up to date.... I I wish you all the best ill try the ROM sooner or later and give some input/screenshots

Take care :-)

Do Macs have programs that do this? I would rather do this on my mac, as it doesn't crash every 15 minutes lol.

The official 890 update is maybe 7 days away. The soak test starts today.

"select the xml from the extracted sbf file in rsd lite"

What does this mean and how do I do it?

1: Open up the "Droid_3_SBF_5.6.890.zip" in any archiving program, and extract its contents to a folder on your desktop (for easy location)
2: In RSDLite, in what looks like an address bar at the top of the program, click the "..." to the right of it
3: In that window, browse to the folder you extracted all those files to, and select the XML file (the only one that will show)
4: Once selected, click "Start" to the right of the previous button, and off you go!

OK I got it and my phone is back to working.

Now should I be able to go in and install the rom?

Trying to find what is custom on this rom? It's rooted, deodexed, and some apps added/removed.

What else makes this custom.

I was trying to find the prop changes you made but this is all I could find. Are there any other customizations we can look for?

  • mot.proximity.delay=150 (was 450)
  • wifi.supplicant_scan_interval = 45 (was 90)
  • windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=55windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=120 (was 55)

I decompiled the framework, and modified some of the XML files. Not normally noticed, but they are there. I dont remember off hand what all I changed. Forgot to write them down as I changed them. I added a couple images to the framework, but Im not sure how well it worked. I optimized all images in all apps (not a whole lot, otherwise there were massive graphic glitches).

Do i have to do any prep steps if i installed just installed / ran koush's cwm and i'm rooted with a bunch of frozen bloat? or can i just start from step 1?

I installed it and it took a while to boot, but it doesn't really work. My phone thinks its on roaming everywhere I am, and the phone number is wrong. 000-000-4538 or something like that. I'm going to have to flash back to stock, my phone is essential. Did I do something wrong? Are we supposed to clear the cache and wipe data or something?

You need to dial *228, and select option 1, to activate your phone. dancedroid

You didnt do anything wrong. Its not heavily themed. Not yet at least. It will be worked on more in the next release. I wanted to get something out for everybody to enjoy, in the meantime!

I would recommend starting at step 1. Thats just to make sure you have the fewest errors possible.

Thanks, Chevy! We really appreciate the work you put in on this. Please keep me in mind for any testing you want to do for upcoming releases. Have experience with the D1 and the DX. Really wanting to get into ROM development myself, so I'd appreciate any opportunity to toy around with something possibly broken to get my hands a bit more dirty.

On another note, I've been used to this phone being so bloated that I had a mini panic attack when I factory reset the phone and then installed your ROM. Wanted to my phone to be brand new feeling. But, the lack of apps startled me at first! Thought CWR might have erased TOO MUCH! Alas, I had forgot what a difference a bloat free phone makes. And this is pretty damn close, especially for a V1.0 ROM!

Thanks man!dancedroid
