Removing Stock Apps......

My boss at work want's to uninstall skype but looks like the only way to do it is root because he thinks it is killing his battery life. I have a D1 and don't know so much about incredible anything else that can be done without root? being that it is not my phone...just trying to help him out. any help is appreciated.

As far as I can figure, Skype is native to Froyo and you're stuck with it unless out root. That being said, I know it opens itself a lot but it really shouldn't be causing battery issues. If he's using ATK or a similar task management program, advise him to only use it as a force closer for problematic apps, not regularly. It's a losing fight and Google has put the word out that using task managers is unnecessary. I'll find the link to a really good thread I read about it here on DF.net

DroidForums junkie!

Skype doesn't kill your battery life...Or at least it doesn't for me. I actually have the opposite problem, as well. I have to keep checking to make sure it's open so my dad or sister can call me through it so as not to use minutes. If the phone is restarted, after updates, or sometimes just randomly Skype will have disconnected and me running it manually logs me back in.

I am not rooted, but I use Launched Pro to hide unused apps to keep it clean. Someday I will probably root, but until then this works for me.

It replaces the home screen with a customizable skin. The best thing it does IMHO is give you a sliding menu at the bottom of the screen that houses 15 icons for 15 shortcuts. Put your apps shortcuts there and keep that wallpaper clean. :)

That sliding dock is what makes it for me. Not only do you have up to 15 slots (it's configurable, I actually only use 10), but each slot can have a swipe action, which could potentially double that number.

For example, I have one slot with the Messaging app. But if I swipe it, it starts a direct message to my wife. Without the dock, that would have taken two icons (one for the Messaging app, one for the direct message).

Another thing I did was combine that with Folder Organizer. This allows me to put a folder on the dock, or again, assign it to a swipe action. I have the camera in one slot, and the swipe opens a folder with all the Photo apps. Awesome.

Yeppie - the swipe thing is pretty cool as well. I forgot to tell you about that.
And the dock itself is customizable. I used a cool nature scene as the dock background.
