[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

How did you verify that it was named update.zip? And thank you for getting rid of that quote. It's hard enough for newbies to read all 136 pages of the thread. :) In general it's not a bad idea to quote specific posts, but in this case we knew what you were talking about. No worries.

I literally just did this ten minutes ago and had no problems. CLN replacement for my old Droid that was having some MAJOR signal issues.

So, is it on the root of your SD card? How did you rename it in the first place?

Well.....thanks to you my brain kicked in and I realized I never copied the file to my SD card. Yes I feel stupid but I just completed the process and it worked like a charm. Thanks for your help and patience with this newbie.

I apologize, this is the first time I have ever posted on a forum ...

You're going to root your phone but you couldnt figure out how to post a reply that didn't include the entire text of the post you were quoting? Sorry, but that just struck me as hilarious.

This is happening to me as well.

Getting an installation aborted message myself on my D1. I had the phone rooted running CM6 for a bit but it started fritzing out on me so I flashed back to stock, not realizing I'd lose my root. Then, to make it worse, I accepted the OTA updates, so it's current.
This is happening to me as well.

Anyway, I run through your walkthrough, everything works (I have to rename to MC1.SBF but otherwise the flash goes well on win7). When I open sprecovery, I hit "allow update.zip" and then "install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)" and get this message:

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.

No explanation whatsoever of the problem. I've redownloaded the update file twice, made sure it's not update.zip.zip or anything, and dug through the forums. Any ideas?

Has anyone come up with anything new?

Thanks

Try downloading a stock rom plus root. Look in MetiCkone under droid hacking>custom roms.

He has an odexed and deodexed stock rom there. This will tell you if your phone is having trouble with the other update.zip file.

If it does work you will have to redo the sbf because without that update.zip, I don't think sprecovery will stick.

Sent from my MetiCk/DavrosModded A855.

What OS are you on? Did you install the latest drivers? Does your PC normally recognize the phone? Were you trying to flash from the bootloader?

Any other information you can give us would be greatly appreciated. :)

I didn't install the drivers. But I installed them and was able to get rooted. I then installed LFY v1.96 and it froze my system. With a little effort I was able to install LFY v1.95 but the same thing happens - when I reboot my system my system hangs.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but what did I do wrong? It was not this difficult to root before.
