It was named correctly. I checked using Astro before I tried the second time. I mounted the sd card because the first time I tried it after it failed I noticed that the card wasn't mounted. I read the FEI and I am pretty sure it said that I needed to mount the card.
Allow update.zip/install update.zip automatically does that. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't enable USB Mass Storage mode or anything.
Rename the file with Astro just to be on the safe side and make sure it's update.zip and not Update.zip -- I've seen that fail on my own phone because I didn't lowercase the U.
Install from sdcard
finding update package
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk01 (or /dev/block/mmcblk01) (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip

Reseated it several times. I will reread the instructions, maybe I am missing some timing thing somewhere. This last time I went and mounted all the partitions just for grins
Ok, So I have tried searching for some kind of instructions on modifying the Build.prop file so that I can see ALL the apps in market, but have found nothing dedicated to this subject. I know nothing about this file, and from the few things I have seen it controls a great many more things than simply what apps show up in the market. For this reason, in combination with the fact that I have yet to see anything directly addressing the "market" issue refering to this file, I am not comfortable even opening it... much less changing anything in it. It is great to know that my issue may be tied to this file... but without any further instruction other than "instructions are ELSEWHERE" I am at a loss for what more to do or try. Can anyone give me a little better hint (or maybe even a LINK?) on where to find info on modifying this file? The term "elswhere" just isnt getting the job done.
Thanks for the help. a new SD card from WalMart did the trick. Funny that the Sandisk 16GB card is at fault after only about 8 months. Now on to other things!
All I can say is, thank you very much! It took me a couple of trys to figure it all out, then the stark realization that I'm a complete idiot, but it worked none the less.:icon_ banana:
My biggest hangup was that I had saved the update.zip as a shortcut on my desktop. Once I went to the actual file and put it in, everything went perfect.
I really only wanted to make it a hot spot but now....
Thank you for this tutorial on rooting. I was able to follow your directions with ease and rooted my Droid--something I have never tried before.dancedroid
My camera has gone bad.
I have a warranty on my phone but need to unroot it back to stock to take in for repair.
What is the easiest way to do this? Just run the FRG83D update fiel that came from Verizon on should I unroot to stock 2.2 then apply the FRG83D update? Actually the FRG83D update is probably not necessary to get the phone fixed I just need to be unrooted....I assume.
I have ROM manager which has "Stock Images? It show a Verizon Droid 2.2 FRG01B.
Should I just load this one?
