Root Explorer Problem

did you 'steal' the root explorer app? might be why you're having problems, pay for it. or you could try 'file expert' - it's the same thing but free (and a little clunkier). ADB tools as stated above will resolve your issues though

the ADB stuff can be done in terminal emulator too.

but i just showed you this to see if we can see why RE isn't working.

as that's the ultimate goal.

So if after doing the terminal commands let us know, so we can go from there.

root explorer isn't working because he downloaded it from a third party - solved. buy the app, then it will update and work. also could try to update the one you have and see if it will work that way

but, there are 3rd party markets out there, not just google, so if he did pay for it from a 3rd party then there's no problem.

Let's not get to deep into that, but the way RE should work, wouldn't be involved with where he got it, unless RE specifically checks which market it was installed from, and disables some features based on that, but that would have been described somewhere.

but i dunno :)

I doubt third party had anything to do with it because it has been working flawless for months. Only reason I went third party is because my card didn't support international or else I would have gotten strait from market.

highlighted it in red

Damn how'd I miss that... So it is on R/O.

Let me try that command to remount R/W

Ok it worked now, and my icon displayed perfect. Kudos!

Only issues im having now is when I go back into Root explorer its back to R/O again and still cant change it. So I would have to do enter the command manually everytime?

Also I dont know how I changed the backround of the MMS lol but now instead of white BG its Black... kinda looks tight tho

well, as of now yeah you'd have to type it each time. but if you don't reboot your phone, then it should stay RW after you changed it, unless there are other Root apps that you use, that would change it back.

i'm curious as to why RE won't do it.

in terminal after you've opend root explorer and pressed the Mount r/w button

type

logcat -d

and see if there's any E/ marks at the bottom that'd be followed with text

example logcat with the E/

E/yahoo.push.service(17867): yahoo.log.im: at org.apache.http.impl.client.AbstractHttpClien
E/yahoo.push.service(17867): yahoo.log.im: at com.yahoo.mobile.client.share.push.http.HTTPH
.java:268)
E/yahoo.push.service(17867): yahoo.log.im: at com.yahoo.mobile.client.share.push.http.HTTPH
E/yahoo.push.service(17867): yahoo.log.im: at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:1096)
E/yahoo.push.service(17867): yahoo.log.im:
D/dalvikvm(15926): GC_EXPLICIT freed 168 objects / 8472 bytes in 61ms

D/dalvikvm(17867): GC_EXPLICIT freed 2929 objects / 272440 bytes in 41ms

or you can type

logcat -d > /mnt/sdcard/logcat.txt

and email me the logcat.txt on your sdcard

or i can email you my app :) it has a root file explorer and more, you can use it to test.

I'm actually curious to know why aswell... But I actually took your guys advice and borrowed a friends debit card and bought it from the Market and now i'm having no issues. Works like a charm.

So it must of been some type of bug in that 3rd party app, unless you guys could identify? I like the beta stuff aswell
