Root or Wait for 2.1.......

Personally, I'm rooted and have Smoked Glass Blue installed, and I'm NEVER going to the official 2.1 update unless i absolutely have to.

I have/see all the new stuff with 2.1 now. Phone is overclocked and runs 100%. No issues. Super fast. NO lag.

Thing just *ROCKS* now. I mean, its easily the nicest phone I've ever seen, makes the iPhone look like CRAP. I thought they were neck and neck when I wasn't rooted, now that I have 2.1 rooted and all these other rooted things installed, its not even close.

Personally, I have GDE installed. Its not exactly 2.1 friendly. I don't get the nice animation with the app drawer, but thats fine.

I honestly couldnt' understand how people were saying earlier "I'm just staying rooted, no need to get 2.1", I mean, aren't they all just "playing" with their phones until 2.1 comes out?

NOW I understand. They have 2.1, all the options (except flash I think), and they can do even MORE than regular 2.1 users because they have root so things can be customizable. Also, the blue smoked rom has blue highlights everywhere, which is perfect with the blue themes I usually prefer.

I wonder if they will just port Flash over as an updated ROM when 2.1 comes out or if they will have to recrack 2.1.

Adobe said it would be downloadable from their site.

If that is true, it means it won't be part of the ROM, it will be an installable file, standalone from the ROM itself.

That would make sense, since not all android devices use the same android version, but it appears they are developing flash for many android phones.

The 2.1 official update is suppose to block the root exploit. So I wouldn't update to official 2.1 if you plan on getting rooted.

Want my opinion? root your phone now, and get the custom recovery. Your going to need that anyway, so get ahead and you will have less work to do when the custom 2.1 ROM releases (or at least a 2.1 ROM that allows you to re-root if needed one day).

In any case, whatever you do, don't install official 2.1 that Verizon releases. You won't be able to root your phone (unless somebody makes a new root hack, which could take forever...).

^+1, that's what I did, no regets

I was rooted thanks to you guys on this forum. Rootyourdroid is a GOOD site to go to root the droid. I have to admit i unrooted and went back to stock. I am going to wait until both 2.1 has been released and then probably re root. But again thanks for your knowledge and input.

I just rooted and am running at 800mhz. It is amazing and completely worth it. Only takes like 20 minutes as well.

Hi...I have rooted but am having trouble overclocking to 800mhz......can you tell me where you saw how to do this?? Thanks

looking like those who are rooted are about to be the majority. I wonder if 2.1 will ever be released. If not or its going to be summer before we get it . I may just reroot and enjoy the benefits instead of waiting forever.

People just ROOT!!! If you dont like it and want 2.1 ota when it comes out, follow the easy back to unroot guides and bam back to normal JEEZ :icon_ devil:

You guys need to weigh what you're actually getting with the Official 2.1 vs. what's available right now through ROMs along with probable future enhancements to ROMs once 2.1 comes out and is played with. The current ROMs are much better than what 2.1 will be when it does come (who knows when that will be). Who cares about a fancy schmancy app. drawer animation when you can be running your phone smoothly at 800 or 950MHz. Plus the ROMs offer all kinds of other nice tweeks, including stuff from 2.1 like added home screens and ported over programs/widgets.

The real issue you guys need to consider here is that when the Official 2.1 is pushed down and you install it, the rooting method that is currently being used for 2.0.1 will very likely no longer work. So all you people who are saying "I'm gonna wait for 2.1, then root" have another thing coming. At that point you're going to have to wait until a new exploit is found which could take a while. In the mean time, the people still running already superior ROMs on 2.0.1 will be able to take advantage of even more new things that have come along from 2.1 and will likely have no problems getting flash.

I don't see any reason not to get things going right now, other than just not wanting to deal with being hacky.

P.S. - If you do decide to root, you'll want to make sure OTA updates are disabled so you won't loose your root privileges when 2.1 is pushed. It looks like disabling OTA updates is one of the default features of Bugless Beauty/Beast, if that's what you guys are running. Link

That's the bottom line. I'm stoked with BBeast at 800Mhz, but, frankly, most people don't really care all that much. Even if they do, they don't want to run the risk of screwing up their phone. I'll admit, I was a little anxious the first time I wiped my data and installed a new ROM.

to root, go to root your droid. what i was having problems with on root your droid was creating s=a backup with sprecovery so i would really like some insite on wtf im doind wrong.
