got z4 root on my phone, ran temporary root, and it says it successfully rooted. yet when i try to run apps like busybox or titanium backup it says my phone is not rooted. i have no idea what i did wrong.

Try the permanent root. Also, make sure you have v1.3.0 installed.

Ok. You'll see the superuser app when its successful. Also, download terminal emulator (free in market). When it opens, you'll see a $ symbol. Type "su" and hit enter. If it changes to a # symbol, you're rooted!

superuser popped up after temp root. i believe its in the process of rebooting right now, which i hope is a good thing. ill give everything you said a shot as soon as its back up and running.

its been sitting on the screen that says droid for about 10 minutes now. please tell me thats supposed to happen..?
Doesn't usually take that long. Give it another minute or two. Did you unroot from temporary root first?

i had restarted before i went to permanent root, which i thought was supposed to end the temporary root.

battery pull brought it back to life. tried to download terminal emulator but it keeps giving me an installation error.
Odd. Is superuser still there? What are your options now in z4root?

superuser is still there. z4 root still gives me the options to temporary root and permanent root. nothing about unrooting anywhere.
Open Superuser and see what it says
