[Rumor] Google Could Be Ready to Launch Android 5.0 Jelly Bean This Summer

they should make the new name for an android OS "unicorn touchdown"

but this looks like this 5.0 will be mostly for tablet and not cell phones-- so it can dual boot android OS and chrome OS.

google needs to get on the ball with their OS's and get every android phone out there on the same OS. it's really difficult being a tech to try and trouble shoot someones android phone when they have no idea what OS theyre on and trying to walk them through **** and them not seeing the same things i see (im on ICS).

i give props to apple for keeping all of their phones on the current iOS.
 
I don't see 5.0 coming out that soon. Maybe 4.1 which will be called Jellybean. Which will probably be a minor upgrade the same way 2.3 was from 2.2. Google said 4.0 was meant to greatly help with fragmentation, so I don't see a 5.0 coming out yet. They would have no answer to fragmentation then.

it would make no sense to make a 5.0 just for tablets when one of the big points of ics was to unify tablets and phones under one OS...it would be completely and totally redundant
 
Is 6 months really that big of a deal, considering the "other" mobile OS comes out with a new one every 12 months?

And I don't get why people are all outraged over a new phone or OS coming out a few months after they get theirs. For starters, GB was completely underwhelming. Second, ICS is fantastic so aside from jealous coveting I don't see how Google is harming you in any way.

Would be fantastic to see dual-boot Chrome OS and Android for tablets. Then again, what does Chrome OS really bring to the table? Give me something that can dual boot Windows. And, ultimately, who wants to dual boot, anyway?
 
jelly bean will not come out this summer.....why? because it wont......That would be just stupid. they came out with ICS to bring everything together. they are not going to realease 5.0 that sounds like it would be mainly for tablets and split things up again.

just let this die...

Exactly. The phone vendors and carriers take anywhere from 6 months to a year to catch up with Google's current OS. The TBolt just got GB a few months ago, 2 weeks because the code for ICS was released.

Most of the new phones people are buying today, will be lucky to have ICS by this summer. It would be sheer stupidity to release Android 5.0 so soon.

Of course, the argument could be made that it isn't Google's fault that it takes HTC/Moto/Samsung/Etc and the carriers the better part of a year to get the update pushed out...
