Rumor: Verizon Launching LTE Network on Nov. 15th; 4G Handsets on Black Friday

I'm also curious about the boost Apple will get from an iPhone on Verizon. One argument could say that if you wanted an iPhone you probably already went to AT&T for it sometime in the last couple of years. The other side could argue that people are holding out on Verizon with other phones til they can have their iPhone on their network and will switch immediately.

To be honest the tiered plans are a big deterrent for me. If I get a 4g phone, will I be able to sign up for a 3g plan only and not use 4g at all? Or will I still be tiered if I just turn off the 4g and use the 3g? I feel like if one doesn't connect to the 4g network, then it shouldn't be tiered in Verizons case.

Tiered data plans are coming to virtually all carriers and all new contracts. Get used to it.

But they were saying the tiered data is ONLY for 4g, not 3g. From what i've heard that 3g will still be unlimited if you want it, and truly unlimited at that point because 4g will take over the bulk of it.

But is there really a huge difference in terms of speed between 3G and LTE? Or is it more about capacity in terms of how many people can be on the data network at one time without any slow down in their browser etc.?

Verizon has said they won't tier their 3g network. So if I don't want a tiered plan, but I want a 4g phone, can I stay on a 3g plan and have unlimited data? That's the question.

Ummm... yes LTE is going live but that still doesn't lend credence to iPhone on Verizon end of year beginning of next. Plain and simple that would be two different product lines one for VZW and one for AT&T seeing that AT&T is not even close to ramping up their LTE network. AT&T is scheduled to start turning on their LTE services in late 2011 / early 2012 which, coincidentally coincides with the end of their exclusivity agreement with Apple and the iPhone. It is when BOTH VZW and AT&T have their LTE networks up and running in 2012 is when the LTE iPhone will come to pass and be usable on both carriers. Apple will NOT fragment or produce a separate device. Period.

Both, it will be quicker by alot, most 3g data speeds around my area are 1.5Mbps. LTE should be starting at about 3 times that speed. Also it will allow for a wider number of people to access the network at any given time.

Well so far the experts are saying that what your saying is wrong. While they may not be LTE ready they will be CDMA ready, from everything that has been leaked. And even having a CDMA and GSM version will already fragment apples devices, but to a minimal amount, seeing as everything else would be the same.

I wonder if 3G speeds will increase as more and more people on Verizon move to the LTE network.

I think its possible, if you think about how many people are currently using 3G between cell phones and air cards, right? It only makes sense.

And that's why edge speeds have increased?

I don't know much about Edge, but if so many people can over load AT&T's 3G network and slow it down, then a reduction in people using that same 3G network would make it run at speeds that it should. Same should go for Verizon.

Don't want to burst your bubble but do you honestly think that a CDMA version of the phone would already have been leaked? Seeing that the iPhone 4 was leaked all over hell and creation. Not to mention it would have a higher chance of being leaked because it would have to go through far more extensive testing over the already established GSM phones they have been making. 2012.

That's what I was basing my assumption off of as well. I'm willing to stick it out a bit longer on 3G if I have still have unlimited data and slightly faster speeds than what I get right now. Obviously the LTE network would draw me in sooner than later, but I don't see that being any option anytime soon. I'd bet money that the area I live in won't be one of the 25 markets that gets LTE support this year.

Saying that bloomberg and quite a few others have already stated it, believe what you wish. There were already FCC plans for a iphone on CDMA, so do i believe they are going to come out with one... why not? Merely saying that right now the experts are saying your wrong.
