(Rumor) Verizon planning To End All Unlimited Data Plans By End Of 2014!

I am listening but I disagree. I'm essentially off contract. I'm at their whim they can drop my unlimited at any time they choose. Just because you are given a choice doesn't mean you were not forced.

ie: Say I'm holding a gun to your head and I'll shoot you unless you eat this bug. You eat the bug to save your life. Were you not forced?

LOL, that's EXACTLY what it means, especially when one of those choices is doing nothing and keeping your unlimited data. They have limited your options, but they have not forced you to do anything. There's no gun to your head.

You got called on your hyperbole...just let it go and move on.

AT&T switched my girlfriend to 2GB from unlimited because they said she was tethering. She wasn't.

And that was in the middle of a 2 year contract.

Sorry for the confusion, but I meant when signing a new contract. FWIW, that's just crazy that they took it away like that. I definitely don't agree with it.

Either way, it's still not right. I told her to call and complain but she doesn't like confrontation. Unless it's with me lol.

Well I really like cut off your jib, but any way I look at it I was coerced into making decision I didn't want to make. That by any definition is force.

It's just like when you rent or lease an apt and your lease ends. Your landlord may temporarily allow you to go month-to-month, but do you think you'll be able to go 6 months or a year or more with no changes? At some point you will be "forced" to either sign a new lease with new terms, OR MOVE! The common denominator with our discussion here - YOU ARE NO LONGER UNDER CONTRACT! Once you go month-to-month the contractor (or is it the contractee?) has no legal responsibility to continue the terms of the original deal.

So what advice would everyone recommend, hold onto my unlimited till they rip it from my cold, dead hands? Or, ditch it now and hope they offer that 6gb deal again sometime soon?

I've been struggling with this question, also. I'd like to hold on until they force unlimited from me, but I don't know what plans they'll be offering when that happens. I'd also like to upgrade and get the 6GB deal, but I don't know when they'll get rid of unlimited.

As far as I know, unlimited data customers who are now off contact (month-to-month) can get the 6GB deal now. It's called the Max plan, is available ONLY to unlimited data customers, is not advertised anywhere, is not listed on line, and can only be done by calling Verizon and speaking with a Rep. I did it last Friday and my new Moto X arrived in the mail on Wednesday. Typing this post on it. Loving it so far.

EDIT: I've read posts in other forums where some people were successful getting this promo, and some were not. Some were successful only after calling Verizon several times and speaking to different reps. Evidently, people had much more success when they called a number that was listed on an email that Verizon sent to some customers about this promotion. That number is: 800-723-9195.

6G I can live with that, thanks I'll call customer service and see.

And, just to be clear, the 6GB "Max" plan has nothing to do with the crappy "Edge" plan that makes you make monthly payments to buy your phone. The Max plan for unlimited data customers is just like any other 2 year subsidized plan: 6GB data for $29.95/month. I paid $199 for my Moto X (although I did have to pay that lousy $30 upgrade fee). Everything else on your plan stays the same.

The subsidized price of the Droid Maxx just dropped to $199. Great time to take advantage of that if you can live with 6GB data/month!

You can get the max plan online if you do the edge plan thing cause I tried it want let me do that I didn't go through with it though, I jumped ship and combined with my go on at&t.

No unlimited data customer should ever do the Edge plan with 6GB of data. Why would you possibly want to do that and have to pay retail for your phone (in monthly payments) when, for the same price, you can get the same 6GB of data on the Max plan and get a subsidized phone (for $99 or $199 vs about $600)?
