Same here with my note 5. Home button looks like new. It looks like there is an extra layer/coating in those pics that my N5 doesn't have.My next question is: is the button made different then on the Note 4? I am on my phone all day and everyday. I do not have any scratches on my button and I had my Note 4 close to day one.

Well I appreciate the info. For me it's not going to matter since I bought it used, so, no warranty for me.Hi FoxKat,
do not wait too long.
Custumer Care of Samsung says: The warranty is not applicable I my case.
Such a damage could only caused by myself,
since Samsung does not know about such a problem.
Because this damage does not occur to such an extent, it can be assumed, that no
Defects in material, design and workmanship are the cause.
Conclusion for me:
Small scratches = Defects in material, design and workmanship can be assumed
Small scratches with misssing surface = Defects in material, design and workmanship can be excluded
So, hurry up

Haha, will if we can gather enough evidence that it's a widespread problem we may be able to pressure Samsung into repairing them. Let's see.Hi FoxKat,

o.k. no warranty, but still a case of guarantee i guess.
But, don't leave me alone and write to Samsung.

I'm wondering if the surface could be re-coated and buffed to a polished surface again. I plan to experiment. There are plenty of car clear coat repair sticks out there and I have a brand new one sitting on my dining room table. I may just crack it open and give it a whirl. It seemed to be, that I have wooden fingers :

I hope they do not use that button on the Note 7!It seemed to be, that I have wooden fingers :

It doesn't surprise me that the area where the coating is coming off is larger. It's only natural that coatings (as this is), will peel away the more it's handled. t

My guess is it's totally cosmetic and since it doesn't play a role in normal operation it would be considered under the"normal wear and tear" exclusion in the warranty. It might be difficult to get Samsung to ever honor this as a manufacturer's defect in material or workmanship.
