S7 and S7 Edge Home Button Scratch Gate!

Bilds.jpg

This is the best one I have now.

My next question is: is the button made different then on the Note 4? I am on my phone all day and everyday. I do not have any scratches on my button and I had my Note 4 close to day one.

Same here with my note 5. Home button looks like new. It looks like there is an extra layer/coating in those pics that my N5 doesn't have.

Hi FoxKat,

do not wait too long.

Custumer Care of Samsung says: The warranty is not applicable I my case.
Such a damage could only caused by myself,
since Samsung does not know about such a problem.:(

Because this damage does not occur to such an extent, it can be assumed, that no
Defects in material, design and workmanship are the cause.

Conclusion for me:
Small scratches = Defects in material, design and workmanship can be assumed
Small scratches with misssing surface = Defects in material, design and workmanship can be excluded

So, hurry up :)

Well I appreciate the info. For me it's not going to matter since I bought it used, so, no warranty for me.

Haha, will if we can gather enough evidence that it's a widespread problem we may be able to pressure Samsung into repairing them. Let's see.

Ouch. As others have mentioned, no such issue with the Note line. Shame that they went the cheap route with this.

does it prevents the detection of fingerprints?

I'm wondering if the surface could be re-coated and buffed to a polished surface again. I plan to experiment. There are plenty of car clear coat repair sticks out there and I have a brand new one sitting on my dining room table. I may just crack it open and give it a whirl.

Let you all know how it goes after I do some pre-application testing to be sure I don't screw it up.

It doesn't surprise me that the area where the coating is coming off is larger. It's only natural that coatings (as this is), will peel away the more it's handled. Both the abrasive nature of fingers against the coating helping to lift up the exposed edges of the coating, and the finger oils which work their way underneath the coating and break the adhesive bond cause acceleration of the delamination.

I'm relatively sure they played with it and may have even tried to scratch some of it loose to see what's going on. They surely had to use the button some during the repair process, and the button may also have come on contact with table surfaces while being disassembled, further contributing to the delamination.

The coating apparently has a checkerboard pattern which seems to serve no purpose other than to add asthetic value since the distortion of the coating doesn't seem to negatively impact the fingerprint reader's performance.

My guess is it's totally cosmetic and since it doesn't play a role in normal operation it would be considered under the"normal wear and tear" exclusion in the warranty. It might be difficult to get Samsung to ever honor this as a manufacturer's defect in material or workmanship.
