Samsung and Google postpone Ice Cream Sandwich and Galaxy Nexus Announcement

If that is the case then: Do you think Apple would show the same level of respect to anyone else!? I highly doubt it. Yes. Steve's death is a blow to the industry but why not keep things moving? I still think there is something else going on behind the scenes here... Partially out of respect but my gut is telling me something else is up.

Not the release of the phone, just the announcement. I said this before the thread got 86'ed by Shadez, but It's all about 2 things: 1) Paying due respect to one of the people who created this industry and 2) PR. It would be a PR nightmare to have a flagship phone released within a week of his funeral. A nightmare because you are fitting for the media's attnetion, a nightmare because it will look like you are fighting for the media's attnetion and trying to overshadow the funeral and grab headlines. Just think about the media taking this and running with headlines about how "evil google and samsung are for trying to schedule a big happy event in the wake of a tragedy" whether it was planned weeks in advance or not. All that can be avoided by waiting a week for your big announcement and letting people have their time and moving on.

It doesn't matter what Apple would or would not do.... this is what Google and Samsung are doing and it is what is right.

I do actually think Apple would show the same respect. You certainly are entitled to think that way. Guess we will find out if the phone gets delayed like the Bionic or something. I truly don't think it's anymore than what it is though.

Well, I'll say this then.... IF it is indeed just out of respect; Then props to Samsung and Google. Let's HOPE this is just a delay in the announcement and NOT a delay in the release like the Bionic.

This is what im thinking also. Especially if SJ's funeral is during the week and possibly on the same day as their announcement. They were also probably taking a few shots at Apple during their presentation that now they're either reconsidering and need to tweak a bit. As the consumer waiting for official specs and pics and everything, it obviously sucks but this is the right thing to do. As long as they only delay the presentation a week or so and the actual release date of the phone doesn't move, or is also only slightly moved, I absolutely commend Samsung and Google for this

yes, totally agree with that. My D1 is begging me daily to upgrade it.

OK don't string me up but..... They put this on hold because of Steve Jobs's death!?? Why!???? I am not taking anything away from the guy.... He was a large part of the Technology we all use Today but, Why hold back new Technology? Something else has got to be cooking here....

I don't think so either. Two large corporations beholden to shareholders are not going to delay out of the decency of their hearts. There's some opportunism driving it. Saying "this is not the appropriate time" leaves just enough room for an "ethical" interpretation without actually having to commit to it.

Out of respect. Plain and simple. Why are you looking for anything beyond that?

Oh come on ... really? This is just an announcement of a new phone.

It's not like they are sending an Andy mascot to piss on his casket as it is being lowered down into his grave.

Just announce the damn thing!

That is where the "avoiding a PR nightmare" comes into play.

For those saying it isn't for PR and there is no reason to delay, tell me, what business classes have you had and how much have you studied in that realm? It absolutely is the smart thing to do holding this back.

If that is the case, then why did Apple start accepting pre-orders of the 4S late last night/early this morning?

Again, it doesn't matter what apple does or doesn't do... this is what Samsung and Google are doing. I would also say that hosting a massive event and allowing a website to go live are two completely different things.

I'm betting that if the iphone 4s announcement had been planned for next week, it wouldn't be happening.

If that is the case, then why did Apple start accepting pre-orders of the 4S late last night/early this morning?

Because it had already been scheduled and changing it would make their stock drop again. Stopping the preorder the phones would give the public perception that Apple was in complete disarray after Jobs death and fears as to their future.
