Samsung and Google postpone Ice Cream Sandwich and Galaxy Nexus Announcement

I had a long message typed up about the PR thing, but okay, we'll get away from it.... to me, that just means an extremely short Announcement --> Release window. Less time waiting while actually knowing what I'm waiting for.

I like that viewpoint. And I'll be surprised if more info doesn't start sneaking out ahead.

Oh come on ... really? This is just an announcement of a new phone.

It's not like they are sending an Andy mascot to piss on his casket as it is being lowered down into his grave.

Just announce the damn thing!

Ill reword my statement. Undoubtedly this has to do with pr as well, but again I don't get why ppl are so shocked by this. Its something that almost has to be delayed given the circumstances.

It doesn't add up. Samsung has already made two announcements regarding the postponement of their release. If this was about respect to Steve, why wouldn't they say it, and stop beating around the bush? If they were really worried about PR, they would have said we're delaying this because of Steve's funeral, then everybody would have understood. Instead they put out some BS statement that causes more confusion and frustration. My guess is there's something more to the story.

And Steve's passing sure didn't stop Apple from taking pre-order on their new phone, just saying.

It would have been suicidal for Apple to stop the preorder. It had already been announced and canceling it would have caused their stock to drop more. Investors would be concerned that it showed weakness in the company leadership following Jobs death.

Props to Google and Nexus for showing some respect. But has anyone heard from Bionic or Thunderbolt?
About ICS? It hasn't even been announced yet so no word on when the Bionic will get it. And I've kind of given up on the Thunderbolt. It's had this much trouble just getting Gingerbread.

I suspect arcbird is right about the Thunderbolt. I would bet the only way it will ever see ICS is through a custom ROM. Especially with the Vigor coming down the line.

I would like them to schedule a venue in the states, its a good way to bring in some money into our economy. With that said I understand and are respectful that they decided to postpone the meetings. Remember the ceo from google use to work for apple so I am sure he respect the guy and will be at the funeral. Just because they had a disagreement on a business standpoint does not necessarily mean they hated each other personally. I am sure there was mutual respect for what each other was doing. I think in a way Steve Jobs had to be proud that a former pupil took a company like google and transformed it in to a company to rival his own. That just shows how influential Steve Jobs was. For those asking would apple do the same thing if it was in reverse, no telling but I would think they would. But even if they wouldn't that does not excuse google and samsung from being respectful. Plus it would have been a bad move in a pr sense. Two rivals who directly competing against apple continue to unveil a new product and talk trash about apple just after the funeral of Steve Jobs. That kind of bad publicity could swing public perception the other way. As far as the London thing I do understand. London was the next venue already scheduled to unveil consumer electronic products so they just went there, its a smart business move all the way around.

That's a great point about the Google CEO originally being from Apple. I had completely forgotten about that.

I have, but what am I looking for? Respect and PR? Like I said, if this was out of respect for Steve, why not just say so? Everything in this thread is speculation by us. Nobody can say with certainty why this is being delayed.

Because it had already been scheduled and changing it would make their stock drop again. Stopping the preorder the phones would give the public perception that Apple was in complete disarray after Jobs death and fears as to their future.

I'm not so sure about this..... Steve's health issues were made very public so stock holders were in the loop the entire way. It's part of what made him such a keen businessman. The stock did drop slightly after his death ( 3rd UPDATE: Apple Shares Drop Slightly After Jobs's Death - WSJ.com ) and to say that the public perception would show Apple in complete disarray is a bit of a stretch. Since SJ's health was so well known throughout the industry (both professionally and publicly to consumers), I doubt people would have expected an on time release especially a few days after his Death.

For those that would like to be enlightened, I am fairly confident that this postponement of announcement has only to do with Jobs passing.
I have been following all "the insiders", P3Droid, BMX, and BritishTurbo (the guy who leaked that the Bionic was in trouble). Speaking of him (BT), an XDA thread of Nexus speculation links to his Google+ profile because of a recent post. He confirms that the delay is anouncement only. He also confirms that the GSMarena specs are more correct than the BGR ones, this correlates with P3Droid and BMX. This really is going be a beast phone. Only thing he is not certain of is if when it lands (on Verizon first) if it will truly carry the name Nexus. All else is accurate though.
