flawless install ... so far. followed directions at:How to: Root Android 2.1 and Install Android 2.2 on Motorola DROID | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
- substituted latest sapphire build.
- booted droid. verified working droid.
- copied over gapps (renamed update.zip)
- shut down droid, booted into SPRecov .. installed update.zip
- booted droid, setup google account. let everything sync. resync to be sure. email, calendar, etc all good.
now i just gotta go hunt down apps!
but .. so far it's been a cakewalk.
