Saving attachments from GMail?

Only way to get around this at the moment is to open your email providers web interface in your browser. You will only be able to download files that are recognized by one or more of the applications installed on your os. Until Google fixes this or someone else writes a better application, its the ONLY WAY!!!

If you search on the web there is a program available called Crutch Lite. I have downloaded this on to my phone, but I have yet had a PDF file to open, but my understanding is that this particular program will open any document.

If someone wants to test it send me a pm and we can talk about how to test it.

Unable to open PPT's or ZIP's

I am having the same issue as everyone else here, but I OWN THE $30 version of Docs to Go.

I press the little green "DROID" and nothing happens. I get stuff from work on my email push and i cant seem to open or save any docs.

This is a genuine problem from which I can't find any fixes.

HELP!!!! Anyone?

Are you using the g-mail account associated with your Droid for e-mailing your Docs as attachments? When you click to open the attachment it should ask how you want to view. Select to view with Docs to Go. Save the file from within Docs to Go and you should be good.

:mad:Actually spoke with verizon tech support. This is a known issue on. Zips and ppts
And they are working on a fix. Never heard that before:icon_exclaim:

Download Crutch v2008-01-31 Application for Android | Tools
This will allow you to download any file type on your Droid. The app doesn't have an icon... just runs in the background.

If you have Astro File Manager installed, there is a setting in that app to allow all downloads... so you won't need to installed Download Crutch :)
when I try to save a ZIP file in my gmail app I only get the "preview" button then it opens up Astro and tells me "file type not found"

in the Astro setting menu I have "enable browser downloads" checked, but I get a pop up telling me to disable the downloader before I view attachments in Gmail....

hrmmmm how I do I disable the downloader :(

This is RIDICULOUS!

I can preview an mp3 attachment and listen to the whole song, but I can't save it?
Did this OS have a design team consisting of people who have never used a computer before?
Why would this NOT be an obvious need?

I went through this similar problem on another thread and Matt3w helped solve my downloading and view problem by suggesting the K-9 email app. It was an easy install and I was able to view and save my attachments with k-9 while my gmail account only said "preview". Go figure.

You can save Gmail. You need to archive it. That will save it in a folder called all mail. You can access this when your mail is up and you press the menu button.

One of the things I did was set up a bookmark for gmail so I can easily access any other mail I need to get to. Gmail is absolutely great.

By saving my large .mp3 to an archive I then had a preview option so I could play it... but I still couldn't save it.

I had to browse through my browser to my inbox gmail to download it from there.

ok, I installed K-9 but now it won't play my .m4a music file because it has no associations.... even though I can play it just fine with meridian player and the music player.

I cleared defaults in all the music players and picked meridian as default hoping to reset the associations but no dice.. K-9 still won't play after downloading or give me an option to save.

Sign into your Gmail account from your phone's browser. Then click on the attachment and it will download. I recommend Linda's File Manager for moving files which is free from the Market.

I just created a bookmark to GMail on the web, and added it to the homepage. It automatically gives it a cool G icon, and I called the bookmark Gmail Web. If I need to download something, I'll use that instead. Web client works pretty good. But I agree, they should fix the client.
