Should I buy RAZR over RAZR Maxx if cheap?

I'm just trying to sort out if all the hype about the RAZR Maxx is solely because of the battery life or if the phone itself is worthwhile. In other words, if the Maxx were not on the market, would the RAZR be the top dog?

Yes. Motorola is a very very close business partner with Verizon. That is very valuable at the corporate level BUT the benefits follow a trickle down business model. Of the phones handled by Verizon, Motorola's are featured. Apple (No) LG and Casio and even Samsung sit in the back seat.
To your exact question, the Razr is a great phone. The Razr Maxx is simply a Razr that will get through the day for most heavier users. These days defining a light-moderate-heavy user is anybody's guess.
That is like me having a conversation with my Four(4) teenagers about what is an acceptable number of hours spent playing C.O.D. in any given day, the negotiation started at 4 and 17 hours respectively.
Bottom line: You can not go wrong with either the Razr or the Razr Maxx, IMO I have "Bit" on deals and was left wondering why did I think the rather insignificant $$ impact was worth the far more considerable daily impact (for two years in this case) whether that would be the case for you relative to your "pocket miracle" - only you can know. IF in doubt, err on the side of spending the $$ you will not be sorry. The other way, you won't pat yourself on the back for two years about $$ long ago spent on Gummy Bears and toilet paper.

I also think the 2 razr deal for 85 is a great deal, I paid 200 for mine then the price dropped and got 100 back which was always nice.

I also dont mind charging once a day as I am use to it with all other smartphones on the market.

A Maxx isn't going two(2) FULL days either so you end up charging everyday - same0 same0. Only Diff is for many the Maxx will complete a day where sometimes others will not.

I bought the blue RAZR two weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I travel with work so I'm always within arms reach of a car charger or outlet. It usually last me 3/4 of my day with heavy use. Usually throw in a brief charge around 3 on the afternoon.

Personally I can't see the large price difference for what are essentially twins.

If I hadn't gotten as great a deal on the Maxx, I would have definitely gotten the Razr. I actually tried to get them to give me the same savings for the Razr because I'm all for saving as much as I can but for whatever reason, they were pushing the Maxx at that time. Charging my phone more often is not a problem. And I would be as happy with my phone if it was a Razr. To me, the battery life is only one very minor plus about the phone. The real pluses are getting great phone reception, I always always have data, sometimes 3g in a 3g area but never yet been stuck. Sometimes the 3g is as fast as my Wi-Fi. I have 160 apps on my phone and I have never experienced any lag, force closes, redress, problems of any kind. With or without the battery, this phone is amazing!

I have my own mobile business, so I'm always driving to my customers & use car docks. So that in theory my phone should always have a decent charge by the time I get to a destination (the fact that 3 of my Razrs had issues that made it so they wouldn't charge hasn't made this work out like it should).

So with battery life expected to normally not be an issue, having choices in colors & a thinner lighter phone made the Razr more desirable. Plus I got it for a killer deal(between the OP pricing & normal sale price).

I'm lookin at gettin a Maxx this weekend and, while the battery is a huge plus, I need more than 16gb of storage. I'll put at least a 32 in it as soon as I get it.

Well, heres my $0.02. I came from a Droid X...went to this Razr and bypassed the Razr Maxx because I couldnt justify the added expense of $200 for a larger battery and 200mhz faster clock speed on the processor. Heres my reasoning, take it for what it is...

1) On my Droid X, with a custom ROM (Liberty usually), I was steadily getting 17-21 hours of my normal usage...2-5 <5 minute phone calls, 10-20 text messages, 30-45 minutes of web browsing/Droid Forums app, 5-10 minutes of Market down loads, 1-3 YouTube vids, and an average of 4-6 hours of SD Card MP3 music file playback via WinAmp...

2) I have long ago broken myself from thinking I need to have my home email and my Gmail accounts syncing every hour...so I had them set to only synch on WiFi...which I have at home. GPS, Bluetooth were both OFF unless needed...no sense in them searching when not needed...same with WiFi.

3) When I moved to the Razr, I kept the same "old habits", as well as utilizing Smart Actions since I now have 4G access where I work. As soon as I leave my 4G area and revert back to 3G, I am within 30 minutes of being home, where my phone automatically connects to my WiFi...and where I also have access to 5 chargers since I have a Razr, wife has a D4, my daughter has my old DX, my wifes old D2 is still laying about as well as an old D1 I bought online about 6 months ago...needless to say, I dont worry about battery life at home.

4) Doing what I do, along with what the phone can do, I come home daily around the 30-70% mark on my Razr...and alot of that depends on wether or not I have increased my 4G data usage by surfing considerably more than normal or if I have had to have my Navigation...below is a screen shot of today's usage...

5) In the end, if you can afford the extra cash...go ahead and get the Maxx`s...if you are dollar concious and will be home o around charger in less than 15 hours, I would just get the Razr...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think the Maxx was clocked faster; just a larger battery and a larger body to hold it. It's even the same firmware version as the RAZR.

If you can get your hands on two RAZR Maxx batteries and back doors you can always just replace the RAZR's battery with the Maxx. I've only played with RAZR's in store (have had my Nexus since late January) so I can't comment much more. I just know it can be done. Here's a link to a how-to over at XDA.

Replace RAZR Battery with RAZR Maxx Battery

I haven't read the main thread in ages so can't remember if they also have any sources for getting the spare parts or not. If you can grab two Maxx batteries and covers AND the RAZR's for a good price you will end up with basically two Maxx's for STILL cheaper than it would cost to actually buy the Maxxs' lol

Seriously if I was getting a RAZR this is the path I'd go down. Just because I thought it was a crap move of Motorola to release the RAZR's then turn around and re-release it with a different battery. So yeah this brought a smile to my face seeing as you could do this. ^_^

Exactly the same phone, just a bigger battery and bigger rear section to hold it.
