Showing Vehicle Speed on the Nav Screen

lol, I love it when this comes up. My car has an absolutely amazing app for keeping track of speed. It's called a speedometer! And it really works well.

See if your car has one and give it a try! it rocks. :D

When was your speedometer calibrated last?

How much deviation does your speedometer give you based upon the inflation of your tires?

Does your speedometer create a log where it will store the speed you were doing at a particular location?
Remember this is a phone, not a Tom Tom.

Did you ***** about this 20 years ago before GPS units were available? What did you do back then?

which one?

I use GPS Status which shows speed. My Tracks will do a nice job recording tracks that are then uploadable to your Google Maps account.

I'm in market right now, and there are two, one GPS STATUS, by EclipSlim and then there's Gps Status (see the lower case) by Andrea Baccega

thx

I thought that was a instant fuel usage gauge? The farther I push down the pedal the more gas I use.

I'm guessing most of the readers here weren't driving yet (possibly not born yet) 20 years ago. Not that you don't make a good point. :)

You want GPS Status by EclipSlim. The other one doesn't look like it shows speed, just general gps info. I'm getting GPS Status to play with. If it works well there is a donate option to kill the ad bar.

I would just like my speed to show in the corner of the screen!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris
If you want it now, you'll need to find another GPS nav app that offers that feature. Otherwise, submit a request to Google. I don't have the URL handy but you should be able to Google it easily.

Sure but it would have to be part of maps to be right just like a GPS device like Garmin or Tom Tom. Not yet but I hope they are working on it at Google. It's an obvious requirement for them.

I would also love them to allow the map to scroll as you drive like the GPS units when you are just in map mode instead of navigate mode.

Um... mine does scroll when I'm in map mode. I just hit 'my location' and it keeps me centered on the screen as the maps scroll in whatever direction I'm moving. You can get to that via the menu, or if you hit menu, more, then labs, there's an option to put a button right on the touch screen for 'my location'.

I typically have the map up when I'm driving to and from work with the traffic layer enabled. That way I can see if there are any major slowdowns on my typical route and either plan for a longer trip, or take a different route. The labs area also has a feature that makes the traffic layer work a bit nicer by making it a bit more transparent so that you can see labels easier.

Seriously, just play around with the various apps on your phone. You'll find a lot of cool features by doing so!

If I wanted a phone I would have bought a phone. We were discussing the Droid, weren't we?

Wow, thanks guys. I got to thinking after reading this thread, maybe the cop isn't wrong and maybe my speedometer app is mis-calibrated. And I'll be damned, speedometer app reads 80 and GPS reads 88-89.

Time to eat crow, sorry officers I may have been wrong!

Not only is the speed indicated by a GPS potentially more accurate, it's also nice to see how fast you're going on a plane (as well as altitude).
