Simi Automatic Root for Thunderbolt

Just posting to say that this method is wonderful. I had some issues with the drivers, but once that was squared away this worked like a charm!

fryetech even walked me through it on skype! very impressed by this program and even more-so by the support that fryetech provides

I did! The video said activate debugging and then plug in again. When I plug the phone is again, it doesn't recognize that the phone is connected.

Turn usb debugging off then back on.

I ran through this, went very well, thanks ! Question that may have been asked but I didn't see it, what about over the air updates? 1 - will I be able to get them ? 2 - will they unroot me ? And if not, how do I get the new goodies? I'm figuring there's an update at some point that will give us better battery life.
Thanks again.

I would STRONGLY recommend against accepting an ota while rooted. Someone will post a rooted version you can install like any custom Rom. It could fail, unroot, or soft brick you. I really don't see any ota update affecting battery life that much. You'll do better by installing an undervolted kernel and syncing less. Or get an extended battery...

Issues with Superuser

I am having issues with super user. I have tried several slightly different methods for rooting using ADB. I am going to try your semi auto root once the file downloads.

Superuser keeps force closing. I have tried almost 10 times the manual rooting process. When I boot into bootloader it says S-off so I believe it is rooted. Installed and reinstalled and started from scratch several times. With out superuser working to grant permitions I cant flash Rom Manager, or get any root access with apps because of this.

Superuser opens fine when I open it under the apps menu. But when the pop up comes it crashes.

been at it for days.

thanks to anyone for help. :)

Just so everyone knows there has been a better video posted on how to use this.

auto rooting

I manually rooted my D1

like true manual used the terminal emulator and all

and I always had some issues which I know came from not rooting flawlessly

more annoyingly unrooting was a huge pain in the ass harder than rooting!

my friend used an app that he simply put on his SD card, installed and ran.

that app just had a button that said root then after had one that said unroot

it worked flawlessly for him. Custom ROMS ran a lot better on his phone than mine. He didn't have to deal with any headaches and most importantly whenever he had to go to verizon for something he was able to simply click unroot and 15 mins later had a factory unrooted phone.

Do any apps like this still exist or is this the way you have to do it now?

I'm getting a TB tomorrow or this week and I'm debating maybe not rooting it because i am convinced that for a great number of phones rooting just doesn't seem to mesh with the phone and it never works as well again after.

So basically I still want to try rooting my Thunderbolt but only if I can quickly and easily unroot it if It'ss not working bugfree. So I want to know if there are any apps around now that allow you to root and unroot with one click.
