Smart Keyboard

Thanks for your work on the app. I have a question. Android has the annoying problem that one cannot easily change the input language (and associated dictionary for word correction and completion) without changing the Locale/Language of the entire phone/OS.

Is it possible to fix this problem with your keyboard, like in the iPhone OS? The solution would be: tap a button to switch to a different language, and the input dictionary switches accordingly to that of the selected language, if available in the phone.

That would be great! There is currently no solution to this problem for Android and many people who type SMS/Email in multiple language really looking for a way to solve this problem.

Hello
there is already a button to change the language quickly on Smart Keyboard (if you enable it in the settings), and actually it was why I developed this keyboard in the first place ! But as the dictionnary is not yet implemented I guess it is not enough for you... just wait a bit ;)

Hi Cyril,

Cool, glad you are planning that feature. I saw a screenshot with Fr on one of the keys so I figured it had a layout switching feature. How difficult will it be to implement dictionary switching that corresponds with the selected layout?

I am not too far away from you (Germany) and can't wait to be able to switch dictionaries on the fly between US English and German for writing SMS/Emails!! Waiting breathlessly for that feature! :)

Edit: Just installed it and see German is not a selectable language. Can you add German to the list? Thanks!

i think it works good so far, anyway in the pro version you could impliment some sort of skin system to make it look more like the better keyboard skins?? i just like the bigger style keyboard more than the default android style, awesome, keep up the good work

Update on the Keyboard text-box occlusion problem...this actually seems to be a Google talk or Android system error, as I've experienced it using other keyboards. Probably not something you need to really worry about right now, Cyril, although you're more than welcome to try and help Google out with that one. ;-) Hope you're having a great weekend.

how do i USE the keyboard?? reply to me at ([email protected])

Menu > settings > location & keyboard check smart keyboard (you can leave whatever else checked there as well).

Go to whatever you want to use to type with it, and long press in the input box. A menu should pop up with an option saying "input method." Smart Keyboard should be an option on that menu. You may have to back out of the program and come back in for it to change keyboards, that gets a little buggy for me.

To change back do the same thing, long press on an input box and change to whatever keyboard you want.

I just downloaded this on my Droid, but when I long press an area to type the only input method I see is the Android keyboard. any suggestions.

Thanks.

The only grip i have and its a personal issue is that the capture area for the keys are too big... i have fat fingers and dont always push directly on the key... If you could shrink down the capture area it would greatly speed up my texting.
Hello
actually the problem is not that the capture area is too big, but that there is no vertical offset of the hit box. But I fixed that in 0.3.4, so it should be better now !

I also fixed the "double send" issue in IM view and added a smiley popup

Guys I need your help.
On my phone (HTC Hero) I have a multitouch bug, which I will call the "XP" bug: if I press X, then P, then release X, and then release P, the resulting event sequence is "print x, DELETE, print p" instead of "print x, print p".
This is due to a coordinate mismatch reported by the touchscreen driver, which generates a touch event containing the x coordinate of the "P" key, and the y coordinate of the "X" key, and the result is that the keyboard believes that the delete key was pressed...

Do you have the same problem on your phones? Anyway I will try to find a workaround to this problem as it is quite annoying...

You are the man i just left sype for this... whatever was the real issue with my fat fingers you fixed it and once you have a paid version with auto correct it will be perfect by my books... thx for the quick response and fix... Def looking forward for the final release.

that error doesnt happen on my motorola droid. It seems to work fine. Press and hold X, press P, then release P, and it writes XP.
Thanks for all the work

Hey cyril, Im just curious, but will you be implementing a system with some sort of auto punctuation as well? like a double tap spacebar for . or replace didnt with didn't. Your work so far is great. ill be one of the many lining up to purchase the pro version at this rate.

@cyril
Another thing, i dont know if its a bug, but when i type really fast, i think the keys dont register which key i hit first, and they totally are missing key strokes. im getting sentences with words missing a few letters, and spaces missing. I dont know if its cause i need to type a bit slower, but on my iphone i used to type that fast, and not have these errors, Maybe im just not sure what to expect?
