As most are aware both the LTE network and eHPRD are down (a special version of 3G for the Thunderbolt only). To get 3G data back you just need to change your settings back to the normal 3G network. Here are the steps:
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick Rev A
Youll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press Commit Modifications.
Restart your phone and you should see 3G is working
Then you can use either the Phone Info or LTE OnOff app to set the preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL) to maintain a steady 3G connection, i.e. to keep the phone from cycling through its options and thereby temporarily dropping the connection. And once the LTE network is back online, you can set it back to CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto.
I'm not sure the benefit of eHPRD, so I'm not sure why I'd want to turn it back on ever again.
I did these two steps and got 3G back. Thanks all!
I think someone mentioned this already. Since I don't live in an area with 4G do you think I can activate eHPRD when its back up again and just leave it in CDMA auto (PRL) to maintain it? Then whenever I am in a 4G area I can go back to Phone Info and switch to CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto and connect to 4G...would this work?

So quick question... I just got 3G after being on 1X all day. NO I did NOT do the fix in this thread. So, after getting 3G in Southern California (high desert) -- I went to the About Phone --> Network and it's showing CDMA-EVDO Rev A. But ... why? I didn't do the fix in OP? Did Verizon just roll out a quick update?
ive had 1x all day went to verizon store outside detroit they didnt even know about the outage checked the good ole droid forums website and learn it nation wide. so i did the trick in the OP of this thread and i now have 3g back. so when its posted that it fixed ill go back and reset it to get my 4g back. no worries i figured it had to be the network.
Thank You! We have had bad storms today so I was thinking 3g was down but my girlfriends OG was working fine. What scared me is it went out as soon as i downloaded LTE ONOFF I thought that messed my phone up. I just did this fix after working all day without Data. Or 1x data which blows.
